DATA COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKING
Activity #1
Set 1. Define the following terms:
1. Data – Data defined as facts or figures or information that’s stored in or used by a
computer. Data refers to any information which is presented in a form that is agreed and
accepted upon by is creators and users.
2. Communication – Even outside of the internet, those on the network can communicate
with each other via electronic mail over the network system. When connected to the
internet, network users can communicate with people around the world via the network.
3. Data Communication – Exchange of digital information between two digital devices
refers to the transmission of this digital data between two or more computers. Allows
computer to exchange data.
4. Protocol – Set of rules that govern data communications. It defines what is
communicated, how it is communicated and when it is communicated.
5. Data Transmission – The transfer of data from one digital device to another. This
transfer occurs via point-to-point data streams our channels. Data Transmission is the
process of sending digital or analog data over a communication medium to one or more
computing, network, communication or electronic devices.
