CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, the research methodology is presented. This includes the research

design, the population and sampling, the data gathering instrument also the procedure and

lastly is for the data analysis.

Research Design

The researchers used the descriptive qualitative research design specifically the case

study, because it has a capacity to deal with a lot of factors, to determine the unique

characteristics of the entity, same as the researchers were focused on finding information

regarding to cover one or more issues of the study, specifically the connection of promoting

a tourist spot while improving the livelihood of the residents.

Population and Sampling

The researchers used a non-probability sampling, specifically the purposive or

judgmental sampling that includes the tourism officer of Labo, officer-in charge of Museo

de Labo, barangay officials of Barangay Submakin, andMunicipal Disaster Risk Reduction

and Management Office (MDRRMO) officer of Labo, and lastly are the prospective

visitors or tourist and residents of Barangay Submakin.

Instrumentation

For the purpose of this research, in-depth interview was the researcher guide to use

to explore the views and experiences of individuals on specific matters particularly to the

issues. Specifically the instruments that was used in gathering data was a semi-structure
interview guide for the researchers. To serve as guide and conduct a follow-up questions

for further elaboration. The researchers used the question to know the perspective and

insights of the interviewee regarding to the question that were asking. The semi-structured

interview guide will helped to satisfy the research objective.

There was be an interview guide consisting of 5 parts that were asked to the

respondents the first one would be the reaction of the respondents on different kind of

promotion, the second part will be regarding the information on the sights to be seen in

Maligaya falls, the third one will be regarding the attributes of the Maligaya falls in terms

of accessibility, safety, and resources. Fourth are the impacts of promoting Maligaya falls

to the residents and tourist of Barangay Submakin. Lastly, how tourists will generate

additional income for the residents of Barangay Submakin. In this part the observation was

also important in gathering information for it helped us the researchers view some

problems that the certain barangay is experiencing.

Data Gathering Procedure

For the purpose of this research, the researchers gathered data through depth-

interviews and observations from potential tourist, concern officials and the residents of

the Barangay Submakin, the researchers first selected for the target person that they can

gathers data through interviews, through that the researchers actually gathered raw and

reliable data that was direct from the subject and observations from potential tourist,

concern officials and the residents of the barangay. Although it was time consuming, it still

have very credible result from this data gathering procedure. And to gather those important

data, going to that particular area and observing was needed to be use.

In interviewing specifically to the officials and other sectors, writing a request letter

showed a respect and sincerity so that the researchers will identify if the said respondent is

willing to cooperate.

Data Analysis

All the data that been gathered after the data gathering was analyzed and

summarized by the researchers to answer those questions that were needed for the topic

itself specifically to answer how the promotion of Maligaya Falls affects the livelihoods of

the residents in Barangay Submakin,Labo, Camarines Norte.
