Who Will I Be?
During this internship I’ve learned that the good and bad experiences provide the same
outcome for me to build upon. I faced many days filled with adversity and tears, as well as many
days with success and smiles. In the end, getting a true taste in the field of the sports industry has
truly enabled me to propel forward with confidence in the future as I look to begin my career.
The WSSU Athletic department instilled in me to become more focused, disciplined, maintain a
positive mindset, and to always stay prepared. I've learned that you can prepare to overcome
hardship before it occurs. I've also developed to build inner strength and cultivate a growth
mentality to help my mind become more resilient. Through trials and tribulations, teamwork
became the pivotal focal point of our organization as me and my fellow internees completed
unruly tasks on a daily basis this past semester.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to concentration when it comes to achieving your
goals in life. I quickly realized this as we began our internship. The level of focus and attention
to detail it took to initially get a grasp of things around the office was off the charts. Our
supervisor had us doing things that we personally had no experience doing. I only had two
decisions when troubled with tasks that I had not been familiar with; I could sit there lost and fall
behind on work because things are too difficult or I could adapt and use the resources around me
to create success. I was up for the challenge on a day to day basis. In the sports industry, each
day has to be attacked with this same exact mindset. At this internship I learned that things in
this field rarely go as planned and you can almost guarantee that your work is miscellaneous.
You never know what can pop up throughout any given day and you must be ready to properly
rectify these situations to keep things progressing. I invested my time during this internship in
embedding the principles and creating them into habits to help me push through for the near
future. I know what's next will not be an easy task, but I feel I am well prepared to do what it
takes in order to be successful.
