SELF-AWARENESS
(Psychosocial Exercise for Nursing Students)
DEFINITION:
One of the most crucial aspects of the nurse-client interaction is self-awareness, which is
the process of objectively examining oneself. Self-awareness is seen as a crucial
technique for establishing a therapeutic relationship with patients in order to facilitate
therapeutic healing.
PURPOSE:
Self-awareness allows nurses to realize their emotions, temperaments, and potentials,
allowing them to better comprehend their patients' strengths and limitations, as well as
assisting patients in recognizing their own.
SIGNIFICANCE OF SELF-AWARENESS IN PSYCHIATRIC NURSING:
It offers us the ability to shape outcomes. It aids in the development of improved
decision-making skills and increases our self-confidence, allowing us to speak with
greater clarity and intent. It enables us to see things from a variety of viewpoints. It
liberates us from our biases and assumptions.
CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE, DURING and AFTER THE PROCEDURE:
Keep an open mind, be mindful of your strengths and weaknesses, answer as honestly as
possible.
THINGS TO DOCUMENT AFTER THE PROCEDURE:
Write all the activities like your Johari’s Window and your answers to the one-on one
interview on a journal, Additionally, based on these two, write an essay combining these
answers with the title “Who am I?”
