Miranda v. Arizona
Ernesto Miranda was charged with rape, kidnapping, and robbery. He was arrested at his home
and taken in custody to a police station where he was identi ed by the witness. He was
interrogated for two hours during which he was not told about his right to an attorney. Miranda did
not complete his night grade and had a history of mental instability. He confessed his crime
during the interrogation which the police recorded. The prosecution’s case consisted solely of
Miranda’ confession.

Miranda was sentenced 20-30 years in prison. He appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court
claiming that the police had unconstitutionally obtained his confession. The court denied his
appeal. He then went to the US Supreme court, where Chief Justice Earl Warren ruled that the
prosecution could not use Miranda’s confession because they did not inform him that he could
have an attorney. These warning are to be given by police duty under the Constitution’s Fifth and
Sixth Amendment.

People of the State of California v. Orenthal James Simpson (1995)


On the night of June 12, 1995, Nicole Brown Simpson, ex- wife of famous NFL player O.J.
Simpson, and Ronald Lyle Goldman, a waiter were found murdered outside Nicole’s condo. They
were stabbed multiple times. The main suspect was O.J. Simpson. When the police arrived to
arrest Simpson, he had already ed. When he was nally found and put under arrest, he pleaded
not guilty. The trial lasted more than 8 months. Simpson had a high pro le defence team led by
Johnnie Cochran, and eight other attorneys. The verdict came out not guilty. There were
numerous things that were mishandled in this case such as the case was not led in the district
where the crime occurred. Somewhere or the other racism was used in bene t of the accused.
The fame of O.J. Simpson also somewhere in uenced the verdict
