Direction: Explain in a sentence why education philosopher was
associated with these given words.
a) John Locke – the empiricist
Philosopher John Locke was associated by the words “the empiricist’’
because he is basing his ideas and theories on testing and experiences. For
him, education is not the knowledge we acquire by reading good books, it is
our relationship with other people with genuine experience that you can also
share with them.
b) Spencer – the utilitarianist
Education Philosopher Spencer was associated by the words “the
utilitarianist” because he believed that a morally good action is one that
really helps the greatest number of people. He favours specialized education
over that of general.
c) John Dewey – experience
Philosopher John Dewey was associated by the word “experience” because
for him ideal learner is not just one who can learn by doing, but one who can
attach wisdom of the past to the present which will be used by making and
dealing with problems to find out or show if they can’t resist, then they
