Revised Antenatal Care Guidelines 2017

This administrative order amends two items from a previous order on antenatal care guidelines. [1] Item 3 is amended to specify that focused antenatal care for healthy women will consist of 4 visits - one in each trimester and the last between 36-38 weeks. [2] The table in Item 7 on preventive measures is amended to update the timing of tetanus immunization in accordance with a new guideline and to specify the administration of supplements and screenings at each visit. [3] All other provisions of the previous order remain in effect.

SUBJECT: Amendment to Administrative Order No. 2016-0035 dated September 19,


2016 entitled "Guidelines on the Provision of Quality Antenatal Care in All
Birthing Centers and Health Facilities Providing Maternity Care Services"

Administrative Order No. 2016-0035 dated September 19, 2016 entitled "Guidelines on
the Provision of Quality Antenatal Care in All Birthing Centers and Health Facilities Providing
Maternity Care Services", hereby amends section VI Specific Guidelines item 3 and item 7.

Item 3 shall now read as follows:

"3. Focused antenatal care interventions for healthy women with no underlying medical
problems shall be provided over 4 visits at specified interval: 1 visit during the 1st trimester (8-
12 weeks), 1 visit during the 2nd trimester (24-26 weeks) and 2 visits during the 3rd trimester at
2 weeks interval (32 weeks and 36-38 weeks). For women with underlying medical conditions,
focused antenatal care may require more visits upon doctor's advice."

The table in item 7 that specify Preventive Measures shall now read as follows:

As thus amended, all other provisions of AO No. 2016-0035 not atTected by the
aforementioned amendments shall remain valid and in effect.

This order shall take etTect immediately.
