Conditonals

Type 0 – lege a naturii


If conditional Main sentence
present present
If you mix the ingredients well, you make a good meal.

Type 1 – real present = conditia poate fi realizata in prezent


If conditional Main sentence
present future/ imperative/ can, may, might
If you study, you will get good grades.
you can get good grades.

Type 2 – unreal present = conditia nu mai poate fi realizata in prezent


If conditional Main sentence
past simple would/ could/ might + short infinitive
If she knew the answer, she would tell you.
she might tell you.

Type 3 – unreal past = conditia nu a putut fi realizata in trecut = regret/ critica


If conditional Main sentence
past perfect would/ could/ might + have + 3rd form
If she had known, she wouldn’t have left the house.
she might not have left the house.

Mix Type 2 + Type 3 – caracteristica general[ a persoanei afecteaza prezentul trecutul

If conditional Main sentence


past simple would/ could/ might + have + 3rd form
If she had more time, she would have gone to the concert last night.
If he weren’t always late he might not have been fired.

Mix Type 3 + Type 2 - trecutul afecteaza prezentul


If conditional Main sentence
past perfect would/ could/ might + short infinitive
If she had been at the meeting, she would know what they discussed.
If they hadn’t worked so much in they wouldn’t be so rich now.
