D129 Dual Class A Initiating Circuit

Installation Instructions
1.0 Description
Before you begin, become familiar with the operation and installation guide for the control panel
you are using.
The D129 Dual Class A Initiating Circuit Module is a fire system interface to the D9412GV2 Listed UL864 9th
Edition, D7412GV2 Listed UL864 9th Edition, D7212GV2, D9412G, D7412G, D7212G, D9124, D9412, D7412,
D7212, D9112B1, D7212B1, D9112, D8112, and D7112 Control Panels. Use the D129 for fire alarm and waterflow
alarm applications. The D129 has two Class A (Style D) circuits, each with a screwdriver adjustable Alarm Retard
and Alarm Reset Delay. Use the Alarm Reset Delay in waterflow applications. You can mount up to four D129s
inside the control panel enclosure.
The Class A (Style D) circuit is four-wire data expansion loop with a feed and return for both the positive and
negative sides of the loops. Unlike the two-wire loops supervised by an end-of-line (EOL) resistor, the Class A
circuits can detect an alarm condition with a single open or ground fault in the circuit.
For additional D129 installation information, refer to the D9412GV2/D7412GV2 Approved Applications
Compliance Guide (P/N: F01U003639).
1.1 Waterflow Alarm
When using non-retarded waterflow switches on a wet pipe sprinkler system, you can set each set of the D129
loop inputs with an Alarm Retard period to compensate for water pressure surges.
For all other types of fire alarm applications, set the Alarm Retard to zero.
1.2 Alarm Retard and Reset Delay
When using Alarm Retard, set the Reset Delay time to ensure an alarm is generated in case of alarm valve
fanning. The Reset Delay progressively shortens the Alarm Retard cycle when the sprinkler loop continuously
alternates between alarm and restoral.
When using the Alarm Retard, set the Reset Delay time for a time interval approximately 50% longer than the Alarm
Retard period.
The D129 Reset Delay is equal to the Alarm Retard when the Reset Delay adjustment is fully counterclockwise.
Turn the Reset Delay adjustment screw clockwise to set the delay longer than the Alarm Retard time.

1.3 Programming Zone and Point Codes

The control panel must be programmed with a zone or point code appropriate to the type of installation. For
waterflow alarm installations where the control panel provides the only means for operating a local sprinkler
warning bell, you must set the D8112 with the priority zone code of 3183. The priority zone code prevents silencing
the bell while there is still a waterflow condition, and sprinklers are operative. The point code for the D7112 in this
situation is 04211. For the D9412GV2, D7412GV2, D7212GV2, D9124GV2, D9412G, D7412G, D7212G, D9124G,
D9412, D7412, D7212, D9112B1, D7212B1, D9112, D8112, and D7112 use Point Index 2 from the default program
for this option. This point index is programmed to ring the bell until restored, Buzz on Fault, Fire Point, have a
trouble condition on an open and an alarm on a short.
Setting the D8112 zone code to 3181 allows you to silence the bell while there is still a waterflow condition. For this
situation, set the D7112 point code to 02211. The D9412GV2, D7412GV2, D7212GV2, D9124GV2, D9412G,
D7412G, D7212G, D9124G, D9412, D7412, D7212, D9112B1, D7212B1, D9112, D8112, and D7112 use Point
Index 2 from the default program for this option, except turn Ring Until Restored to NO.

3.3 Setting the Alarm Retard

1. For each D129 detection loop requiring Alarm Retard, use a screwdriver to set an appropriate retard
time for that loop. Fully clockwise represents a maximum retard time of approximately 90 seconds.
Only use the Alarm Retard for wet pipe sprinkler systems using non-retarded waterflow
switches. For all other applications, adjust the Alarm Retard to zero (fully
counterclockwise).
2. When using the Alarm Retard, set the Reset Delay to compensate for alarm valve fanning conditions.
3. Test the Alarm Retard period and the Reset Delay.

After any programming or hardware change, do a functional test of the system as

required by local codes.
