Intersectionality

In your own words Intersectionality is something that I really believe in and is something that
you WILL see on a future test. How do you fit into Intersectionality? How does this impact
you or do you even feel like this affects you at all? Be thorough in your answers (I expect your
answer to be 6-7 sentences, at the very least)
Being a black woman in America is how I fit in. This can affect me mentally, physically and
financially. Women are already considered the weaker race, but black women are just looked
down upon with jobs, people etc. Black women are treated differently in every way like social
media, your workplace, school, even just out in public. The double standard of womanhood and
the differences in the obstacles Black women faced, which social justice movements failed to
recognize. Black women have worked to catalogue and organize against these interlocking
systems of oppression for a long time. Like during slavery black women were beaten, raped,
had their kids taken away and some were killed. Nowadays we get judged on the type of hair
that we have, how light or dark we are, our bodies, what we wear. and it’s been going on for
years. The discrimination of black women has been going on forever and its honestly sickening.
Kimberlé Crenshaw described the discrimination that Black women face with the metaphor of
a road intersection: Racial discrimination was one road, gender discrimination was another
and the experiences of Black women were at the center of where these roads cross and she is
absolutely right

After watching this episode of Scrubs answer two questions about the video. Make sure that
each answer is at least 3 sentences.
A. Tell me why the “strong woman” stereotype is appealing to some men and not appealing to
others?
Because some men find it attractive that women can be independent. Some women want a man
they don’t need a man and that is how it’s supposed to be period. Independent women have
this standard that they wouldn’t lower for anyone. Having their own money, house, car etc. is
just attractive in general. And to other men they like to have control over their women.
Controlling every thig they do, and they let him because they feel like they need a man. I have a
friend like this, and she makes me mad just listening to her stories about him. I tell her to leave
him bus she feel like she needs a man for some reason. And being able to control them is
basically having control over that person.
B. Why is it that when a female is expressive about herself, she is known as rude and obnoxious
but when a male does the exact same thing he is accepted in society?
When a female expresses herself, some people can see it as quite shocking because they have
this stereotype that women should keep quite so when she tells it how she sees it they find it as
rude because she put them in their place, and they didn’t like it. But when a man does it, it’s
like he’s superior because he expresses himself which is bull.
