In the following chart, you will find four different aspects to describe characters such as:

Weight.

Height.

Hair.

Eyes.

So, look at the pictures and write a word (adjective) to describe each character and the particular aspect (Weight,
height, hair, eyes). Follow the examples given.

When the auxiliary verb of the question is to be we ask about personality. When the auxiliary verb of the question is
do/does we ask about appearance.

HOW TO DESCRIBE SOMEONE

For a person’s physical appearance, you can for instance talk about height, build, hair, eye color, nose, etc.
Then, in order to go into more detail, for example rather than just saying that someone has blond hair, think
about what shade of blond hair the person has, maybe light blond. Also, think about the hair length and hair
style. Giving more information about each physical attribute w ill help your description sound better. In the next
chart you can find many options to make detailed descriptions:

Build (body type) Thin, slim, overweight, heavy, fat, chubby, strong, weak, thick,
medium build.

Height Tall, short, medium height

Hair Short, should-length, medium-length, long, curly, straight, wavy,


black, brown, red, blond (for male), blonde (for female), streaks,

Now, consider a person’s personality and character. Is the person generally easy-going, funny, talkative,
confident, etc…?

Read the descriptions about personality and check the meaning of the adjectives. You can look up the words in a
dictionary so that you can increase your vocabulary.

5. Evaluative task

Describing people and things

You are going to make a video describing someone. First you are going to choose the person you would like to describe;
this person can be one of your relatives or a famous person. You are going to describe his/her physical appearance and
personality.

Important!

 Make a video which lasts minimum 3 minutes.


 Be creative.
 Have a good pronunciation of each word in your speech.
 Use the vocabulary learned along this guide.
