II. CASE STUDY: MANG EUGENIO VENTURA: FILIPINO TAXI DRIVER WITH A GOLDEN HEART
1. What do you think has molded the fair, honest, cheerful behavior of Mang Eugenio?
 Every person has a story of experience to tell. For me, drivers have a lot of stories of experience
to tell as much how a lot of passengers and destinations they have been. I think the fair, honest,
and cheerful behavior of Mang Eugenio is molded by his experiences and his passion. Everyday
he drives a lot of kilometers, reach multiple destinations, and meet various people that the can
get experiences from. Life is not constant, and he can experience both good and bad situations
on his job everyday. Despite of the traffics and unfair world, it is undeniable that passion ignites
on his heart. That’s why I think his experiences and his passion molded him to become fair,
honest, and cheerful driver. With the experiences fueled with passion, it is not impossible to
mold a great driver, a great man on our society.
2. What lessons you have learned from the good example of Mang Eugenio?
 A good example that I learned from Mang Eugenio is do not do something just to have
something in return and do not take advantage on difficult times. In the Philippines, it is evident
that most drivers refuse passengers due to traffic, and that drivers often mistreat passengers
when it comes to charges and tips. Despite the circumstances, Mang Eugenio chose to make a
difference. I learned from him that if we have something to give, we should never hesitate to
offer to someone in need, but we should never take advantage of the situation - it should never
be used as an excuse to abuse someone. We should not do things for which we would solely
benefit; instead, we should do things to promote kindness to others, even if there is no
immediate return.
3. In school, how can you teach and train students in fair, honest, and ethical behavior?
 I believe, I can teach and train students like me to be fair, honest, and ethical by starting it with
myself. I can't teach or train something if I don't have that kind of behavior in the first place. An
excellent teacher or influencer should model the behaviors that he or she desires to see in
others. Thus, I may influence other students to be fair, honest, and ethical by doing great things
to promote these values. Avoiding cheating, being honest and true to my opinion, accomplishing
schoolwork to the best of my ability, and showing respect to school educators and personnel are
just a few examples. I can serve as a role model and encourage others to do the same by doing
these simple things that can make huge difference for everyone.
REFLECTION
The pandemic is now challenging you. What does it mean to be a steward in your home? in school? in
community? in workplace?

Stewardship is defined as utilizing and managing all resources God provides for the glory of God and
the betterment of His creation. In these past years up until now, the global pandemic is challenging all of us but
despite of the situation, we should make a difference by being a steward in our home, school, community, and
workplace.

In our home, I am the eldest child, and my parents are always leaving to work for our family and provide
our daily needs. I can consider myself being steward at our home by carrying the responsibility of my parents
that they can’t do due to our family situation. Whenever my parents leave, I became the mother and father to
my siblings and do things to ensure the safety and wellness of them. I took care of my siblings by cooking
meals for them, doing the household shores, and taking responsibility of what they’re doing whenever my
parents are not home.

In school, I can be steward by being accountable in every task that our teachers have given us. Just
like in Practical Research 2, I was assigned to be the leader and I can be steward in our school by playing my
role as a leader, guiding my groupmates, and doing tasks systematically for the benefit of our group and also
not to waste my teacher’s effort on educating and guiding us despite the current situation and the new normal
set-up of learning.

In our community, I can be steward by being a good citizen. Just like following the implemented rules,
engaging in community activities and services, and helping others whenever I can. Just by simply doing things
that can make huge difference to everyone I can promote stewardship on my community.

Due to our current situation, it is difficult to deal with life. But God, provide us life to use it not only for
ourselves but for the betterment of everyone. Thus, we should not forget to practice stewardship and always
remember what John 3:17 says, “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes
his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?”.
