uh, O what you like to first?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
So everyone, I I'm currently pursuing my P from I equal and personally I am, uh, I, I used to play a lot of
video games when I was a kid, but currently due to academy pleasure. And not a lot of time, I have to
flick out my time and, uh, race this on a personal note. I am a sneaker and I like to collect shoes. I like to,
I'm a effort enthusiast and a football, uh, I suppose, so that
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Right. Uh, Ji, can we have you next? I think there was some audio issue. I wasn't able to hear your
introduction. I'm so sorry about that.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Okay. Sure. So I'll introduce myself again. So I'm Troy. I belong to west wall and I am currently posting
PGP LSM from IM Coco. So in my free time, I love to draw portraits, watching movies. I am a football, uh,
like EPL follower as well. And, uh, sometimes I love to play, uh, uh, games, but, uh, not, uh, much into it
right now, like because of MBA pressure and all, but yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Uh, can we have you next, uh, guys, can you switch on your videos if you can, but no pressure. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Hello. Hi. Am I audible?
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Hi, my Charon. I am pursuing LL B and I live and I am from Del. Uh, my hobbies include, I love watching
football, uh, premier league champions league, and, uh, playing some chess and, uh, on weekends,
some, some gaming I'm not, not too much on gaming right now, but yeah, some gaming. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Uh,
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah. Hi everyone. I'm Shanik and I'm currently a first year student at I, um, and my hobbies would be
like, I read a lot of comics. I mean, I used to read a lot of comics. I play like I'm into a, uh, first person
shooter games, and then I have a bit of hobby around gardening and I enjoy painting as well.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
All right. Thank you so much. I miss I'm so sorry for that. Dave is going to kill me and it's so ironically
coming from me because on my life, my name has been mispronounced anyway. OK. Shadow. So, um,
from each of you, I would like to understand what type of games you play. It can be what, uh, or the
themes of the game are be strategy, um, or, or sports like FIFA. Um, and on what platforms do you, uh,
play those games, um, can start with you.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah, like I'm much into, uh, war games, war games, action games. And I specifically contain myself to,
uh, PC gaming because, uh, I'm not, I'm not, I, I mean, I do not do well with consoles, so yeah, that, that
would be, and, uh, uh, regarding, uh, the games, the titles, did you ask anything about titles?
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Um, you can answer that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah. So the last thing I played was, uh, college duty, uh, world war. So, and, uh, I have a favorite series,
uh, that is crisis.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Great. Great. Thank you. Answer.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Uh, I play, uh, mostly I play sports games, uh, not sports per se, but FIFA. I play FIFA. Uh, recently I
purchased FIFA 22 and I also play some God award, uh, uncharted for, uh, zero down horizon, but, uh,
mostly FIFA sports games. And I play on my console. That is PlayStation four. Uh, yeah, I'm not much
into PC gaming or mobile gaming, but yeah, I have my console and I play on that
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Mar
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Yes. Uh, so I was into PC gaming, tell my graduation. So I used to, uh, cricket, this kind of games. Uh, but
after my graduation, I inclined into like, uh, more into mobile gaming, like Cod PUBG free this kind of
game. And, uh, now I do not pressure myself into those gaming and all. So I, uh, now I only play like 29
or poker or this kind of games. Right?
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Yeah. Oh, just what about you?
Speaker 4 (07:11):
So previously I think till nine 10th, I used to play a lot of video games. So they used to be PlayStation two
consoles at that time. Those were great those times. So smack that EA cricket seven, those were those
games that I used to play, but post that there was quite a period of time and I didn't play much video
games, neither mobile or, uh, uh, consult gaming. But recently around last year back, I started playing
mobile game, more focus towards, uh, college duty. That's the game that I keep and, and I play some
real time multi-player games. Also. It's a very, which a quite little simple graphic game. Like there's a,
there's a game called breakup where users have to take the breakups and then that's it. So those, those
sort of gaming that don't require to do much, either those or more focused towards first person
shooting games.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
My next question to your, how do you describe your relation with gaming as in what is it that makes
gaming a memorable or engaging experience for you manager? Can we start with you?
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Uh, so gaming, uh, is like a break for me. Uh, whenever I get stressed, I like ready to gaming and all, not
much impact on me, but I love to spend my time when I'm, uh, like straight or something to like then I
play games and,
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Okay, thank you. Uh, what about you
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Gaming for me is hang, uh, basically hanging out with my friends. So once a week, we all hang out at my
house and be play FIFA, um, just for the, she, you know, to make fun, uh, fun of each other, you know,
uh, how we lose and how we, uh, win games for just once a week. That's it like we all hang around and
play FIFA. That's it for me? I, uh, yeah, that's all,
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Uh, shark week.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Uh, gaming for me would be, uh, like it's a great stress Buster and, uh, what keeps me connected to
games is like the storylines. Uh, I don't know if you've heard about origins. I'm pretty much, you know,
interested in history as well. So I liked origins very much then, uh, then I mentioned, uh, call duty world,
uh, world Wari. So that's got a history as well. And, uh, and then crisis, which is some sort of a sci-fi
thing. So fantasy stress, Buster, these are all the things that gets me hooked.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Great. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, just
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Me. It like quick escape. So between here and there, if I have like 15, 20 minutes, half an hour to spare
by, and I have a couple of friends in my class and, uh, at my also we just get together on a call. We play a
Cod for half an hour, we go through it. So that's, that's something that really keep me hooked up that I
need not be involved completely in it. I can just play it my own vision. I need not invest myself fully
towards the game. It's just a quick escape. That's it.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Great. Thank you. Um, just another quick question. How many hours on an average, uh, weekly, do you
all, uh, spend on gaming, which is
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Weekly? It would be around three years,
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Right?
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Yeah. Same for me. Two to three hours weekly
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Manag.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Two to three hours.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Is that the same for you too?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Uh, I think it would be around five to six hours for me.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
All right. Okay, thank you. Okay. Uh, so my next question is what think the factors that make your
purchases worth of money or seem like you've exceeded the budget? So these can include, uh, each and
every cost. So there can be the cost of hardware as the, in our purchases or, you know, payment, uh,
based subscription, uh, such as the PlayStation plus, uh, any and every cost related to gaming. Um, can
we start with you,
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Uh, for gaming? I did not splurge, uh, that much amount of money. So in India, a PlayStation for pro
costs around 50,000, but, uh, I asked my uncle who was visiting Canada, uh, uh, around October. That
was, I think, than week. So it was really cheap at that time, around 22,000. So any gaming piece, he
would've cost me around like a lack or 1.5 lackies. So it was logical for me to buy a PlayStation four, uh,
and regarding the games, the games, uh, which I agree are pretty expensive for, uh, PlayStation four,
but, uh, I only buy them when there's a huge discount, like, uh, FIFA 22 released around September, but
I bought it, uh, day before yesterday when it was prized at thousand rupees, I did not splurge 4,000
rupees just because I wanted to play at that time when it released, uh, because of the hype.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Uh, I did not spend that much amount of money and other games like unchartered or, uh, some good
games. Uh, I always look up for the discounts. I never buy it for the whole price. Uh, I would never spend
4,000 Rupe, uh, for 60 hours of gameplay. That's why I have stopped buying, uh, uh, games like, uh,
storyline games, which I know are really good, but, uh, they give us around 60 hours of gameplay or 45
hours of game gameplay, which is too short for me at that amount of money. So, uh, now I buy sports
games, FIFA, which exactly FIFA, uh, because I play with my friends and, you know, I can get, uh, 300,
400, 500 hours out of it. So I think that is like, uh, I get my money's worth.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Right. Great. Uh, O
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Um, I do not really least spend much amount of money over online purchases. So, because I am more
towards mobile giving, so those applications, I prepare, they are free. Of course there are some
purchases involved, but I do not consider myself at that level that I would be purchasing any of those
communities. Apparently. Uh, now I have started new thing. It's called an apple market. It charges me a
hundred to piece subscription and offers me a couple of games online. So I started toward the
subscription model for the first time. So I'm looking toward if there are, if that facility is a good service or
not.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Right, right.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Yep. Like, uh, I used to share games with my friends during school, but now since they're system locked
most of the time, so I pick and choose my first phases. So it's like one or two titles in a year. That's it.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Okay, great. Um, manage it.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
As I mentioned before that, uh, I'm more inclined to mobile gaming, uh, nowadays. So I do not make any
purchases or like there are many subscriptions out there, which games I play, but I do not spend money
on that.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Okay. So my next question, uh, stems from S um, answer that, um, reviews, answer that a lot of people
also switch your, and, uh, switch the platforms on which they play games. So for, uh, manager switched
to, uh, handheld gaming or Mui, uh, gaming after graduation. So the question is that what triggers, uh,
that lead you to switch a platform? So it can be handheld devices, such as phone tablet, or consoles, or
PC gaming, uh, what are the top two, three triggers, uh, that, um, that, that, you know, in use the
switch, uh, sharp can be start with,
Speaker 2 (15:10):
For me, I did not switch because, uh, like I'm a particularly a keyboard player. So switching for me is a
huge Detert because I'm not conversant with a, um, controller sort of gaming. So I stick to keyboard
gaming and PC gaming only.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Okay. Manage it.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Yeah. For me, when PUBG came, so all of my friends were playing, uh, PUBG that time. So, uh, it was like
a trigger for me. It was, uh, like, uh, I was, uh, far like I was living in COTA well, far from my friends. So it
was like a connection to me. And, uh, I was like really having fun with the, and another thing is like, it,
uh, got really engaged, like this kind of games, pub JFA fire call duty. So, uh, you get to, uh, like, like
spend a lot of time with your friends. You can have fun with them. So, yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Um, Otis,
Speaker 3 (16:19):
That's why I switched to the mobile game.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Great. Thank you. Thank you. Managing for your answer. Uh, OTI.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
So I didn't particularly switch, so I completely stopped giving for a period of time, but I would say, uh,
change mindset towards perception of video games in general, or towards gaming in general. So
previously gaming for me used be something that I would take time out of my day to do so I would let's
say, come out of school, come, come from college, take some spare time and do the gaming. Let's say
it's a club. It, it would be an NFS gamer. It would be a GTA gamer. It would be E cricket, anything
whatsoever, but then once that stop gaming was never a priority for me. So for, for me, it's now just a
base, something that I would just do. So I don't switch console and then having a device mobile phone in
which you, you have to spend no extra money to you, uh, to get those games or to play over it. So it it's
kind, it's kind of facilitate what I want. So that's a good thing for me.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
So for me, I started gaming on my laptop. So the shift from laptop to console was because, uh, my
laptop was not of that gaming client. You know, the ones that are, you have a heavy graphic card or, uh,
you know, a heavy processors. So I switched to console because of the price issue you like for a gaming
laptop, you know, it's heavy, it's not, it's, it's, it's a gaming laptop. I, I can't do anything, uh, you know,
workload it, uh, from it. So AF and then, uh, even when I had the console, the PUBG boom came and I
shifted to, you know, mobile, uh, gaming because all my friends were, uh, playing PUBG and, you know,
to basically the same answer to hang around and play with them, I shifted to handle gaming again. So,
yeah, that's it
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Great. Uh, my next question stems from a statement that, um, O had made that he has recently started
experimenting with these subscription based models. So, um, a few models that exist are you can, um,
chain a game, uh, for once one time purchase. Like, you know, you can buy border four and all switch
games off the shelves of Amazon, or you can have, um, a model such as out of PlayStation plus where
you get 24 games a year, or, um, MI uh, Microsoft is also, uh, uh, you know, there are that say that they
will be, uh, introducing a Netflix, like subscription wherein you get the entire of teams for a certain
monthly, um, uh, subscription fee. So out of these three distinct models, um, which one have you had
the experience, uh, with, and do you think will be the most popular in the future? Um, can you start with
you?
Speaker 5 (19:19):
So I, uh, tried with the PlayStation for plus, uh, free trial for 15 days, and it was around four to 5,000
Rupe per year. And we used to get 24 games in a year, but, uh, C for me, I, uh, my gaming hours are only
two to three or maximum four hours per week. So to invest that much, uh, that much amount of money
for me, and to get two games every month, I, I won't play those games. Uh, my, my, uh, basically my
friends get around and I play FIFA with them. So that's the only game that I play right now. So that
would be a waste of my money and my time if I use those, uh, because I think once you get older, you
have other commitments to follow. So playing games wouldn't come as much in the priority list as, uh, it
was back early when I was a kid. So for me, subscription models, yeah, I would, I also have a subscription
model for Netflix, but that's just for 500 and 600 per month. And even if I get two movies out of it, it's
okay. It's okay for me. But, uh, to spend that much amount of money, I don't think so. I'm not that much
of a gamer, so, yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Uh, so as it, for just a new experiment that I tried doing it, uh, as of now, I'm not really, so I'm, I kind of
in a neutral state of point because the price they are offering it at comparatively very cheaper, it's just
19 month they're offering. But so is the quality of products that I'm getting the games over. There are
not quite good. They, the, if a big game, it would be NBA R edition that they have launched, but then it
has lot of graphic issues, lot of control issues. You need, uh, shock controller for playing those games. So
PS for control Xbox controller. So then that becomes, that became massive for me. If previously I
would've known, I would require all such things before in getting into it. I might not have succeed. So if
they offer better variety of games in future keeping the price, same around hundred and, and 30. So
then I might think of, for of the games are decent.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Shanik
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Sure. Uh, so like I said, uh, I make around two purchases a year and that would set back, uh, set me back
around four to 5,000 rupees, but, uh, I'll be willing to consider a subscription based model if they are
price somewhere around three, uh, 3,500, because that would give me an added advantage in terms of
cost.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Okay, correct. Correct. Uh, managing, what's your take on this?
Speaker 3 (22:04):
So, uh, I would agree with Han's points and, uh, one more thing I want to add is I would go for, uh,
monthly subscription necklace type because, uh, after that I will get to experience first, if I am interested
in it or not, then maybe I'll shift my platform if I do not like it, or I will like to step back to it.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Okay. Thank you so much. So, um, slight the, from the current line of questioning, um, there are a lot of,
uh, there is a lot of criticism against gaming that, you know, it, it, it leads to, um, ergonomic issues or it,
uh, leads to bad posture. It's, it's bad for the eyesight. It's really wild in at times. And, um, in general,
people kill a lot of time, uh, gaming and sometimes addicted, uh, to gaming. Um, while another school of
thought says that, uh, you know, it improves your attention. It improves your, how agile and alert you
are. It improves your focus and, uh, you know, how you build strategies. Um, while I understand that all
of you are gamers and will be inclined towards, uh, and will, will, you know, support the latter school of
thought. Um, but, uh, I would like to hear from you any negative effects that you, you have that you
might have faced in the past, uh, cause of gaming.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
And is there something that the developers can go to remedy this? For instance, there was a lot of
criticism against Netflix for their, um, auto, uh, play feature wedding, you know, as soon as one episode
ends, the other begins, well, the entire business model rests on, you know, uh, the consumer spending
as much time on the platform as they can, but there was a lot of, of, of criticism against this. So any such
criticism that you have against, uh, these games and you feel, uh, that have, uh, uh, which might have
had it adversely impacted you or any known person in the past? Um, Maji can we start with you?
Speaker 3 (24:12):
The thing is, if we do anything excessively, then we'll get negative impact of it. I, my personal thought
with gaming is you do, like, if you play games, uh, uh, like in a maintain manner, so it'll make you like
sharp, reactive, receptive and all. So, uh, my personal belief is like, gaming is okay. Like, if you want to,
it's a good Buster after all. So I do not believe in those criticisms, if you are playing, you know, it in a like,
uh, limited.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Okay. Uh, O just, what do you think about this?
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Like extreme of anything is, uh, obviously bad. So going by going by that point only, uh, one thing that I
would, I'm a bit take off in some senses, the in app purchases that this, uh, applications offer, uh,
especially in mobile gaming, you'll see most of the mobile games are free. Of course they would be
developed by the best developers in the industry. Let's say EA game of anyone. And then the, in that
purchase is if you want to go about basic treasure. So if you get addicted towards game, which a lot of
people do, and if you want to go about the basic threshold, you need to have those a net purchase at
some point of stage. So that might become a, a critical issue. But then again, as you said, like Netflix, it is
their business model to earn money some, so they might be going for it. But then that's something
which has negative impact. Um, I have heard from a couple of friends of mine who have made big
purchases, then they would've regretted about doing it. But again, they do who says things and people
do such things on a regular basis. So that might be an area where they can look into,
Speaker 5 (25:59):
I guess, uh, in this regard, the first thing that you need to ask yourself is that, uh, whether you are doing
gaming, whether you want to do gaming professionally, or is it just, uh, something you do for, uh,
leisure, because if you are doing gaming professionally, you need to put in that number of hours,
everybody puts that number of hours in their respective jobs, and that is bad for your posture that is
bad for the rise. And that is bad for, uh, your mind. Every job has its own stress, uh, uh, the ergonomics,
the it's bad for your health. But, uh, I have seen this, the backlash that, that gaming industry receives,
it's just like another industry, you know, you play 10, 12 bars. Yeah. It's addictive. Uh, but you need to
keep a watch on it, but if you are playing professionally, it's your bread and butter, right?
Speaker 5 (26:48):
So, uh, if you're playing for leisure, uh, two, three hours, nothing, nothing matters. Nobody will get hurt
from two to three hours on a weekend because you are just there to, uh, kill your time to have fun. But
if you're swing it professionally, I think, uh, uh, there are a lot of inventions also in this, uh, regard like,
uh, gaming chairs are there. So you can comfortably sit around for 10 to 12 hours, uh, in a go and, um,
you know, laptops and everything has improved so much. So I think that, uh, in negative regard, if you
try to play, if you are playing for leisure, but you are trying to play like a professional person, that's when
you will get hurt. So if you don't mix these two things, I think you're good to go.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Thank you. Thank you. Uh Shanik
Speaker 2 (27:40):
I mean, yeah, I've seen the darker side of it. I mean, I have actually spent eight to 10 hours in a day
during college and school days sometimes not, not during school, but specifically during college. Uh, but
yeah, it did improve my, uh, reflexes and, uh, the reflexes sort of thing that, uh, most of the
organizations nowadays used to in fact, recruit, uh, by know, make, by making you play gamified, uh,
games and all. So it did help at times, but it's, it's surely addictive and, but, but you gotta make it, I
mean, you make out of it.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
You, um, um, alright. So, uh, my last question is that have you, uh, ever in the past had any issues, um,
with playing, uh, with, with, uh, paying for games? So again, it can be the hard cause the, um, the
subscription, uh, uh, the subscription fee or any, uh, such per Jesus, the purchases for the downloadable
content, um, on mobile gaming apps. Um, have you ever had any while you wanted to make the
payment, but were unable to, uh, navigate through the payment, ran into some other issue, um,
Speaker 5 (29:08):
Payment issue? I never had any payment. Uh, I think Sony's a, a really big company, so they wouldn't
want their clients to face payment issue when they're about to get the money. So I don't think so that I
ever faced any payment issue. Uh, but yeah, if you're saying about, if you're asking about the amount of,
yeah. Or the amount of money that I spent on gain, see, for example, uh, I never played, uh, there, uh,
there's this game, uh, which is Witcher three wild hunt it's A1 year old game, but I never played it. So,
uh, I was browsing through and I saw it, uh, around 300 bucks. So for me it was just a burger for me. Like
if I don't eat a burger and I purchase this game, it was the same thing for me. So regarding your question
about payment, uh, payment related issues, I never had one, to be honest and about the, uh, the nature
of my spending it's really, really low compared to an average gamer, which I don't think so that I am so,
yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Okay. Uh Shanik
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Uh, no, I I've never had had a payment with any of the
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Just,
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Uh, I haven't faced any payment issue, but a issue with respect to payment said could be the
subscription based model in which recently I, I wanted to cancel my apple subscription, but I forgot to
do that. And automatically it got, uh, the amount got debited. So for that aspect, if I would receive a
reminder only that this amount would be due further to some information in the would be helpful.
Otherwise I have not faced any payment issue in part
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Okay. Manage it.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Uh, I haven't done any in approaches, uh, to now, so there's no issue in payment as well, but, uh, to play
pub flip pub, like I had a phone of two, which is pretty less to flip PUBG, so I had to buy a whole on
phone so that I can play PUBG, CD kind of games. That's it?
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Yeah. Thank you. Uh, thank you each and everyone of you for your time today. Uh, my team and I are
really, really, uh, grateful, uh, cause this will really help us in our submissions and, uh, the discussion was
also very, very insightful. Thank you all. Um, and we will let you know, uh, if we require any other
additional insights, but for now, um, I think we will be wrapping up this discussion and once again, uh,
we really, really thank you for all your insights. And so
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Simon.
