Frequently Asked Questions

Who should apply?

If you have any damage to your home or personal property, have been
injured or lost a family member or have other special needs related to the
recent disaster you may qualify for aid. Even if you think you will not need
help, you should apply before the deadline just in case. After June 27, 2011 you
will not be able to apply for assistance.

How do I apply?

Call 1-800-621-3362 or go online at [Link].

(Hearing/speech impaired ONLY-Call TTY: 1-800-462-7585). If you get a busy signal when you
call the toll-free number try calling in the evening after 10:00 p.m. or on the weekends when fewer
people are trying to call.

What do I need when I call or go online to apply for disaster aid?

Social Security Number

If you do not have a social security number, your household may still be eligible to receive
assistance if there is a minor child in the household who is a U.S. Citizen, Non-Citizen National,
or Qualified Alien with a social security number.

If you are registering for a business, enter the social security number of the responsible party for
the business; the social security number will be used for an identifier only.

Insurance information -identify the type(s) of insurance coverage you have.

Financial information --your family's gross total household income at the


time of the disaster.

Contact information -Along with the address and phone number where the
damages occurred, you will be asked for information on how FEMA can contact
you

A description of your losses caused by the disaster.

(Optional) If you want direct deposit --your banking information, which


includes: the institution name, type of account, routing and account number.

Please have pen and paper available to record information during the registration process.
You will receive a FEMA application number. Write down this number and keep it
for future reference.

800-621-3362).
When will I hear from FEMA?

FEMA will mail you a copy of your application and an applicants’ guide that will
answer many of your questions. They may also send additional forms for you to
complete.

An inspector should contact you by mail or phone within 10 days of your


application. If 12 days pass call the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362)

Why did they send me this loan form from the Small Business Administration (SBA)?

The SBA is in charge of low interest loans to help individual households as well
as businesses after a disaster. Even if you know that you will not qualify or
cannot afford a loan fill the application out anyway. FEMA uses this form to
offer other kinds of help.
