Structural Engineering General Notes

This document provides general notes and specifications for structural drawings, including: - Dimensions are in mm unless otherwise noted. - Foundations will have a minimum 50mm concrete cover and blinding, with an assumed soil bearing capacity of 150 kN/m2. - Concrete cover is minimum 30mm for columns and 25mm for slabs, beams, and other structural elements. - Steel reinforcement is Y10 and Y12 bars with specified spacing and support. - Any discrepancies or needed alterations must be brought to the engineer's attention.

GENERAL NOTES

-- THESE DRAWINGS ARE TO BE READ IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE RELEVANT ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS.
-- ALL DIMENSIONS ARE IN "mm" EXCEPT OTHERWISE STATED.
-- ALL DIMENSIONS ON DRAWINGS ARE TO BE READ AND NOT SCALED.
-- THE DEPTH OF FOUNDATION WILL BE DETERMINED AT SITE BY THE ENGINEER OR GEOLOGIST AND DONE TO ACCEPTABLE REFERENCES.
-- THE ROOF TRUSS MATERIAL CONSIDERED IN THE DESIGN IS TIMBER, HENCE THE USE OF (STEEL TRUSSES) WILL BE A GREAT RISK.
-- THE ENGINEER SHALL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PART OF THE WORK NOT SUPERVISED BY HIM.
-- CHARACTERISTIC CONCRETE STRENGTH: 20 N/mm² FOR COLUMNS AND 20 N/mm² FOR OTHER STRUCTURAL MEMBERS AND ELEMENTS.
-- CHARACTERISTIC STEEL STRENGTH: 410 N/mm² FOR HIGH YIELD STEEL.
-- NO ALTERATIONS SHOULD BE MADE TO THESE DRAWINGS, IF THERE ARE ANY DISCREPANCIES, THE ENGINEER SHOULD BE PROMPTLY NOTIFIED
-- ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC NOTES SHOULD BE OBSERVED FROM THE DRAWING SHEETS .

FOUNDATION : -- ASSUMED SOIL BEARING CAPACITY = 150 KN/m²

-- FOUNDATION BLINDING = 50mm AND CONCRETE COVER TO ALL FOUNDATION MEMBERS = 50mm.

COLUMN: -- CONCRETE COVER = 30mm.

SLAB / -- CONCRETE COVER = 25mm.

STAIRCASE: -- ALL SLABS ARE 150mm THICK, EXCEPT [ CANT. 1 AND 2 ] WHICH ARE 175mm THICK.
-- STAIR WAIST = 175 mm.
-- B1 = BOTTOM MAIN BARS, B2 = BOTTOM DISTRIBUTION BARS, T1 = TOP MAIN BARS AND T2 = TOP DISTRIBUTION BARS.
-- ALL BROKEN LINES REPRESENT THE TOP REINFORCEMENTS, WHILE THE CONTINUOUS LINES REPRESENT THE BOTTOM REINFOCEMENTS.
-- ALL TOP MAIN BARS (TI) ARE DISTRIBUTED BY (T2) Y10 BARS AT 200 mm SPACING EXCEPT OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
-- STEEL REINFORCEMENT BARS NEAR THE TOP OF SLABS (i.e TOP BARS ) ARE TO BE MAINTAINED IN THEIR CORRECT POSITIONS
WITH THE AID OF 12mm DIAMETER STEEL CHAIRS AT POSITIONS NOT EXCEEDING 1m APART BOTH WAYS.

BEAM: -- CONCRETE COVER = 25mm.

-- B1 = BOTTOM BARS, B2 = BOTTOM SUPPORT BARS, T1 = TOP BARS, T2 = TOP SUPPORT BAR, L1-2 = LATERAL (TORSION) BARS.
-- PROVIDE 25mm DIA. BAR SPACER (1m c/c SPACING) IN BEAMS WHERE THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE (1) LAYER OF REINFORCEMENT AT TOP OR BOTTOM.
