External environment

Now that you've understood your internal environment, it's time to step out into the wilds. Inside,
you had control; externally, it's more about rolling with the punches. The external marketing
environment resembles sailing. While you may not be able to control the waters, you can read
the weather, tack with the wind, and shift your ship's bow to escape approaching waves. We may
divide the external marketing environment into two parts: micro and macro environment.

Micro Environment

If the external environment is like sailing in general, then the microenvironment is like sailing in
bays and inlets. Nature continues to occur around you, but you are better protected from it.
Customers, workers, suppliers, retailers, distributors, competitors, shareholders, and any other
stakeholders comprise your external micro marketing environment. Essentially, everyone who
influences your company's behavior and rules in some manner falls within this category.

The micro or task environment is similarly business-specific, but it is external. It is made up of

individuals who are involved in the production, distribution, and promotion of the item. The task
environment is another name for the micro-component of the external environment. It consists of
external forces and variables that have a direct impact on the business. Suppliers, market
intermediaries, consumers, partners, rivals, and the general public are among them.

Suppliers comprise all partners who give the organization with resources.

Market intermediates include parties involved in the organization's product or service

distribution.

Partners are all the independent businesses that do business with the organization, such as
advertising agencies, market research organizations, banking and insurance firms, transportation
companies, brokers, and so on.

Customers are the organization's target demographic.

Competitors are market participants who seek comparable clients as the organization.

The term "public" refers to any other group that has a direct or indirect stake in or impacts the
company's capacity to serve its consumers.

Assume you're in charge of developing a marketing plan for a particular social media
management tool...

All other things being equal, if your long-term competition develops an integration with TikTok,
you should consider doing the same.

If your supplier raises the price of server space, your profit margins may vary, and you may need
to raise your rates.

If your clients indicate dissatisfaction with a new dashboard layout or UX modification, you
must determine whether to double down or rollback.

When setting goals, marketing teams must keep all stakeholders' objectives in mind.

Employees are included, despite the fact that they are frequently disregarded. The views, desires,
and working styles of your staff have a direct influence on the success of any marketing project.

Macro environment

The macroenvironment is the world in which we live. External macro forces might have a
significant influence on your business. The macroenvironment, often known as the wide
environment, contains greater socioeconomic influences that have an impact on society as a
whole. It consists of six elements: demographic, economic, physical, technical, political-legal,
and social-cultural environment.

As an example;
Your demographic environment (i.e., your ideal client persona) and changes within that group

Your cultural surroundings. For example, if your target market prefers TikTok over Snapchat

Political changes in trade, customs, laws, taxes, and so on

Your financial situation (like the Covid-19 epidemic or an economic or industry recession)

All of these things might put a halt to a company's progress.

Demographic Environment

The market's demographic environment is made up of the individuals who make up the market.
It is defined as the factual analysis and segregation of a population based on its size, density,
geography, age, gender, race, and occupation.

Economic Environment

Customers' purchasing power and spending habits are influenced by the economic climate. GDP,
GNP, interest rates, inflation, income distribution, government financing and subsidies, and other
significant economic indicators are among these.

Physical Environment

The natural environment in which the firm operates is included in the physical environment. This
involves climate change, environmental change, availability to water and raw materials, natural
calamities, pollution, and so on.

Political-Legal Environment

The political and legal environment in a country involves the laws and policies of the
government. Other pressure groups and entities that affect or regulate the operation of the
industry and/or business in society are also included.

Social-Cultural Environment
The social-cultural part of the macro-environment consists of people's lifestyles, values, culture,
prejudices, and beliefs. This varies depending on where you live.

Technological Environment

The technical environment includes innovation, technological research and development,

technological alternatives, innovative inducements, and technological hurdles to smooth
operation. Technology is a major source of dangers and possibilities for organizations, and it is
always changing.

However, technical advancements and innovation can just as potentially lead to corporate
expansion.

How technology can make understanding the marketing environment easier

Keeping your marketing team updated on your company's marketing environment needs constant
communication with all departments and keeping up with news and trends. Workflow platforms
keep your team connected without the clutter of chat rooms or email. You can adapt swiftly and
efficiently when your internal or external marketing environment changes. Individual campaign
management shared calendars, and other responsibilities may all be integrated into a bigger
marketing management workflow.
