Catchment Runoff Analysis Problem

A 150 hectare catchment received 10.5 cm of rainfall in 90 minutes during a storm. The stream draining the catchment experienced 10 hours of runoff at an average discharge of 1.5 cubic meters per second before drying up again. The summary asks to calculate the amount of water unavailable for runoff due to infiltration, evaporation and transpiration, and the ratio of runoff to precipitation.

CE 3B4: Module I Sample Problem

2. A small catchment of area 150ha received a rainfall of 10.5 cm in 90min due to a storm.
At the outlet of the catchment , the stream draining the catchment was dry before the
storm and experienced a runoff lasting for 10hours with an average discharge of 1.5 cu.m
per second. The stream was again dry after runoff event. (a) what is the amount of water
which was not available to runoff due to combined effect of infiltration, evaporation and
transpiration? (b) what is the ratio of runoff to precipitation?

Given:

Catchment area

Rainfall

Rainfall Duration

Surface runoff duration

volume discharge

Runoff-Rainfall Relationship
