1. Word root of Solstice  : solstice comes from sol,the Latin world for sun ancients added sol
to stit a participial stek of sist which means “to stand still” 
2. When is Winter Solstice? Between 21st -22nd December
3. How it is celebrated? It celebrate like , made family gathering with big meals , giving gift
each other , especially in Taiwan winter solstice dongzhi festival 
4. Food eaten for this festival? For those festival the food are dumpling, tang yuan, wonton &
mutton soup ,the eight treasure porridges,etc.
5. Similar festivals in your own country?  In my country Indonesia there are similiar festival
but the celebration  when Ramadan was done , the time for Ramadan is different every year
because it count with Islamic calendar , the festival after Ramadan called ied Al fitr, and then
the same festival in every winter is Chrismast eve , and the other one is Vesak day
