Understanding Air: Properties and Uses

This document contains an exercise about air with multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks, true/false questions, and short answer questions. Some key points: - The multiple choice questions cover topics like the main components of air, oxygen percentage in air, and breathing. - Fill in the blanks address topics such as wind, the colorlessness of air, air taking up space and weight, and the gases involved in burning. - True/false questions test knowledge about properties of air. - Short answer questions define properties of air, the uses of oxygen and nitrogen, an activity showing air takes up space, why air is colorless, and includes drawing a pie chart of air composition.

1. Wind
2. Colourless
3. Space , weight
4. Burning
5. Oxygen, carbon dioxide

1. Atmosphere
2. Oxygen
3. Carbon dioxide
4. Carbon dioxide
5. Nitrogen
E. Answer the following.
1. What are the general properties of air?

These are some of the main properties of air

➢ Air can be felt when it moves fast

➢ Air is present everywhere
➢ Air occupies space
➢ Air expands on heating
2. What are the uses of oxygen and nitrogen present in air?

Through the nitrogen cycle, nitrogen makes its way into soil and water, binds with other
elements, and can be used by living things. Oxygen helps to break down matter and release the
nutrients into soil and is used by humans and animals in breathing.
3. Write an activity that shows air occupies space.

Take a balloon and blow air by the mouth. Twist the mouth of the balloon and tie a thread and
press the balloon. We experience that air which cannot be seen by the eyes occupied a space in
the balloon.

4. Why air is colourless?

Air is a clear, transparent and colourless mixture of gases in the atmosphere. These gases makes
the air colourless.

5. Make a pie picture of composition of air.
