1. What do you think is the importance of behaving properly online?
2. How does a student like you interact in the virtual world?

C. Discussion
1. The teacher will emphasize a question to the students “Is your brain ready for
social media?” before playing a short video clip.
2. At what age did you start using social media? How much time do you usually
spend on it? What are your usual activities?
3. Do you think having an age limit in using social media is important? If yes, what
do you think is the appropriate age for youths to have access to social media?
Why? If no, why?
4. Do you have any unforgettable experience while interacting in social media that
you can share? How did you deal with it? How did it affect you?
5. The teacher will define netiquette and the 10 core rules of netiquette according
to Virginia Shea.

D. Generalization
The Internet is a powerful tool but all users must know that it is also one of the
most dangerous places. Internet helps us in many ways but if we do not know what
we are doing it and we became careless, it could affect our future. Always
remember that online safety should not be taken for granted. It is everyone’s
responsibility to be always safe in the virtual world.
E. Enrichment Activity
The students will share their experience in using the Internet by answering the
following questions:
 Eric got a message saying he won a free Xbox even though he did not
remember joining any online contest. The company asked for his address
and phone number so it can be mailed to him. Should he give the
information?
 Louis noticed that his friends were posting hurtful comments on Facebook
against one of their classmates. What should he do?
 Kristine got an email from someone she did not know, with a file attached on
it. Should she open it? Yes or No? Why?

F. Evaluation
The teacher will ask the students if the given action is considered to be netiquette.
1. Forwarding private and sensitive information to your colleague without
permission of the owner
2. Using copyrighted material to which you have the rights
3. Not posting in social media if the content is not valid or reliable.
4. Saying rude comments to your close friend in facebook.
5. Staying humble in social media.

IV. Assignment:
1. What are the threats Internet users must be aware of?
2. For each of the given scenarios on the next slide, create an appropriate netiquette
that one should follow:
