DOL Motor Starter Setup Guide

This document provides instructions for Exercise No. 2, which involves designing and setting up a direct-on-line (DOL) motor starter circuit with indicator and jog functions using simulation software. A DOL starter directly connects an induction motor to its power supply. The circuit must include a latch circuit, magnetic contactor, and contacts from push buttons and auxiliary contacts to control the power and load circuits. It will be evaluated based on correctly including all necessary components, proper connections, use of appropriate energy and signals, neat wiring, and the circuit operating as intended.

EXERCISE NO.

2 (PRELIM)

NAME: __________________________ DATE: _________ SCORE: _______

Title Direct-On-Line (DOL) motor starter with indicator and Jog function

Description A DOL starter (also known as a direct on line starter or across the line starter) is
a method of starting a single or 3 phase induction motor. In a DOL Starter, an
induction motor is connected directly across its single/3-phase supply, and the
DOL starter applies the full line voltage to the motor terminals.

Specific learning To be able to understand the:

objective  Function of a latch circuit or holding contact
 Operation of the magnetic contactor
 Use of a contacts from push buttons and auxiliary contacts of magnetic
contactor
 Power and Load circuit and Control circuit diagram

3
 Function of lamp indicators and Jog function push button

Tasking Problem Tasks:

 Design and set up the circuit using the EKTS simulation software
 Compare one’s own solution with the one proposed.

Performance Criteria:

Equivalent 55 60 65 70 75 80 85 90 95 100

A. Set-up Point Scor Remarks
s e
1. All necessary devices or components are present? 1
2. Device & circuit connection are properly
2
connected?
3. Does the circuit uses the appropriate source of
1
energy and signal?
4. Presentation of circuit and its components and
2
neatness of wiring/hose.
B. Demonstration
1. Are the devices or components working properly? 2
2. Does the circuit operation comply with the desired
2
output of the problem?

Performance Standard: The students must be able to set-up, operate and demonstrate the circuit
using a software simulator based on the function of circuit accurately in
order to pass this laboratory activity.
