for the Students

Students,

You will be participating in a long-form project that will use a combination of reading,
writing, and math skills along with geography, scientific studies, and research.

This project/activity will be different for each one of you as you move through it. You
will be asked to use your creativity and imagination on a regular basis while also
incorporating learned skills from the classroom.

So what is this? Think of this project as a form of “creating your own adventure”
mixed with specific requirements along the way (which include math, writing, and
problem solving). This project is intended to be very open-ended allowing for you to
make decisions and create a story based on you imagination and genius.

This project will be filled with tasks (or requirements) that you will be asked to
complete as you work towards completion. As you do so you will be asked to create,
imagine, and build an extravagant story by the time you have finished this project.

25 years ago a group of scientists and billionaires tried to recreate the Prehistoric/
Dinosaur Age on an island in the Pacific. Their goal was to bring dinosaurs back
from extinction and create a place where humans could see them and even
interact with them.

project, but they’ve run into some issues. Many of the issues they’ve dealt with

that make this trip don’t realize it is probably a one-way ticket. The billionaires
have offered a large amount of money (in the millions) for individuals that can
relay information back to them.

15 years ago one of the scientists met with a Special Agent Coulson to update him
on the dinosaurs that were currently living on the island. Species included but
not limited to Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Brontosaurus, Velociraptor,
Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, Suchomimus, and Plateosaurus. As of now they have

successfully bred 25 types of dinosaurs. There were also rumors that scientists

were working on breeding a smilodon (saber-tooth tiger), the giant sloth,

This island/park/ should not be compared to the problems that occurred on the

operation and financial backing. Scientists and workers were/are paid a king’s

Based on information provided to Agent Coulson security began to be an issue

Eventually the humans on the island were extinct. Questions still remain by

itself is a mystery supposedly filled with billion dollar equipment and facilities
along with prehistoric animals and dinosaurs.

THE CONTRACT

upcoming trip. They will then write a response to
the contract based on the questions.

Teachers may choose to read this contract as a class,

then discuss details within.

**Some students have never seen a contract, so this

could be a new experience for them. This would be
an opportunity to discuss what and why they are
important.

EXTENSION IDEA:
Discuss the importance of contracts with the class.
• Include books that have been read with contracts.
• Why companies use them.
• What happens if they are broken.

decide how to get to the island and cost for each traveler.

Make sure they understand what it would cost to charter a

plane or boat. Include gas costs, etc.

• They may also want to include cost for vehicles (if they are
taking any).

from.

EXTENSION IDEA:
Discuss with students what a traveling budget is and the
difference between just “buying a ticket” and preparing a
crew with material, supplies, and travel. After all, this is a
remote island that many people don’t know about.

do. They are in two sections, one being hands-on and the other
technology based. Combined are 16 activities for students to choose
from.

These activities/projects could be completed in and out of the

classroom, used as a summative assessment, positive reinforcement
for early finishers, and much more.

Story Form: Write all of this as a single action/adventure story. Use all the details,
1 characters, settings, and action to write a story you’ll never forget.

Create a Diorama: Based on any TASK or scene from your project. Think about all

2 the important locations (pens, science lab, jungle, etc), writing prompts, and more.
What part did you like the most? Make it come alive.

3 Movie Poster: Design a movie poster based on your island.

Cast It: Pick the movie stars that would play each role in this story. Include pictures
4 and reasons why you would chose who you did.

Design a Book Jacket: Your story is being made into a book! Design a cover, back
5 page, and more. Look at various book jackets for ideas.

Make a Model: Create a model of one of the dinosaurs/prehistoric animals on your

6 island. Use any type of material to complete it.

7 Collage: Use magazine, newspapers, and more to make a collage based on your island.

Travel Brochure: What would PreH. Park be like if they accomplished all of their
8 goals? Create a travel brochure that would bring visitors to the island.

Minecraft: Recreate your island in Minecraft and share it with the class. Then allow
1 visitors from other classes to come and take a virtual tour.

Virtual Poster: Use Glogster (or other sites/programs) to create a virtual movie
2 poster for your project.

3 iMovie Trailers (on the iPad): Create a movie trailer for your project!

4 Audio Book: Record your writing samples.

Radio Theater: Create a recording using your writing, voice, and homemade sound
5 effects just like they use to do on the radio.

Digital Slideshow: Using sites such as Prezi or programs like powerpoint, create a
6 slideshow to showcase information about your project.

Use ThingLink (computer and mobile device) to make your map interactive.

7 Students will have to upload a photo and then they can annotate it with images,
phrases, video, and much more content to make the image come alive.

Animoto: Make a short film on your project. Include images from around the web
8 that would correlate with what you’ve created/imagined.
