Recount Text tentang Terlambat Datang ke Sekolah

Last wednesday, I came late to my school because I played playstation untill

2.00 am in the night. Because that I woke up late.

I woke up about 6.30 am and the class would be began at 7.00 am. I ran to
bathroom to take a bath. I usually had a breakfast after took a bath, but in
that day I did not do that.

I always went to school by my moyorcycle. But in that day, I forgot where I

put the key. So, I went to the school by public transportion. It made me
took a longer time. I arrived at school at 7.15 am, I ran to my class but I
saw my teacher has stood in front of the class to teach. I entered to my
class and of course my teacher was angry to me because I came late.

2. Recount Text tentang Pertemuan

It was Friday again, the day for famous parties at Wellington High School.
Students were dancing in the garden and everyone was enjoying the
pleasure of being away from boring lessons.

When Sarah came to the party, the music had already started. Tim suddenly
noticed Sarah and felt shocked. He had been looking for her for 2 years.
They met each other at a holiday camp in 1999, but mysteriously Sarah
disappeared after a while. He had been thinking about her since then.

At the party, Sarah was talking to one of her friends while most of the
students were drinking as much as they could. Tim decided to talk to her
and waited for her friend to leave. When he went next to her, she was
searching for something in her bag, so she did not see him. As soon as he
touched her on the shoulder, she raised her head and couldn’t believe her
eyes. She had never forgot him.

At the end of the party, no one was happier than Sarah and Tim as they
found each other after 2 years.
3. Recount Text tentang Pengalaman Pribadi
Let me remind you my experience during an earthquake last week. When
the earthquake happened, I was on my car. I was driving home from my
vocation to Bali.
Suddenly my car lunched to one side, to the left. I thought I got flat tire. I
did not know that it was an earthquake. I knew it was an earthquake when I
saw some telephone and electricity poles falling down to the ground, like
matchsticks.

Then I saw a lot of rocks tumbling across the road. I was trapped by the
rock. Even I could not move my car at all. There were rocks everywhere.
There was nothing I could do but left the car and walked along way to my
house, in the town.
When I reached my town, I was so surprised that there was almost nothing left.
The earthquake made a lot of damage to my town. Although nothing was left, I
thanked God that nobody was seriously injured.

4. Recount Text tentang Kapal Titanic

Orientation
On April 15, 1912, Titanic, one of the British largest and luxurious liners,
sank into the North Atlantic Ocean which about 400 miles south of
Newfoundland, Canada.

Event
That giant ship which carried 2,200 passengers and crews had struck an
iceberg. Two and a half hour later the ship sank into the deep North Atlantic
Ocean at 2:20 a.m.
From that tragedy, more than 1,500 people went down in the sinking ship.
Some of them froze to death in the icy North Atlantic water and around 700
people (high class woman and children) survived.
Unfortunately that giant luxurious ship was not equipped with much more
lifeboats and good emergency procedures so that the victims of that tragedy
were more than the half passengers and crews.

Reorientation
That tragedy became popular again some years later after James Cameron
directed a movie entitled Titanic in 1997.
The movie that was inspired by the tragedy of the sinking titanic was a
fiction story about the members of different social class who meet in that
ship and fallen in love. It was the best movie at that year and still
remembered by a lot of people around the world until now.
5. Recount Text tentang Hari Minggu

I had a terrible day yesterday.

First, I woke up an hour late because my alarm clock didn’t go off. Then, I
was in such a hurry that I burned my hand when I was making breakfast.
After breakfast, I got dressed so quickly that I forgot to wear socks.

Next, I ran out of the house trying to get the 9:30 bus, but of course I
missed it. I wanted to take a taxi, but I didn’t have enough money.

Finally, I walked the three miles to my school only to discover that it was
Sunday!

I hope I never have a day as the one I had yesterday.

6. Bandung as Sea of Fire

Bandung as Sea of Fire was a fire that occurred in the city of Bandung on
March 24, 1946. Within seven hours, about 200,000 residents of Bandung
burned their homes.
British troops as part of the Brigade MacDonald arrived in Bandung on
October 12, 1945. Bandung was deliberately burned by TRI and local people.
There were black smoke billowing high into the air everywhere. The British
Army began to attack so fierce. The greatest battle happened in the Village
name Dayeuh Kolot, in South Bandung, where there were a large
ammunition depot belonging to British. In this battle, Barisan Rakyat
Indonesia  destroyed the ammunition depot.
The strategy to fire Bandung was considered because the power of TRI and
people’s militia was not comparable to the British forces and NICA. This
incident inspired to create the famous song “Halo, Halo Bandung”.

7. Battle of Surabaya
The Battle of Surabaya was fought between pro-independence Indonesian
soldiers and militia against British and British Indian troops as a part of the
Indonesian National Revolution.
The peak of the battle was in November 1945. The battle was the heaviest
single battle of the revolution and became a national symbol of Indonesian
resistance.  Fighting broke out on 30 October after the British commander,
Brigadier A. W. S. Mallaby was killed in a skirmish. Although the Colonial
forces largely captured the city in three days, the poorly armed Republicans
fought for three weeks, and thousands died as the population fled to the
countryside.
The battle and defence mounted by the Indonesians galvanised the nation in
support of independence and helped garner international attention. For the
Dutch, it removed any doubt that the Republic was not simply a gang of
collaborators without popular support. It also had the effect of convincing
Britain that wisdom lay on the side of neutrality in the revolution; within a
few years, in fact, Britain would support the Republican cause in the United
Nations.
Considered a heroic effort by Indonesians, the battle helped galvanise
Indonesian and international support for Indonesian independence. 10
November is celebrated annually as Heroes’ Day.

8. Supersemar
The Supersemar, the Indonesian Order of March the Eleventh, was a
document signed by the Indonesian President Sukarno on 11 March 1966.

It is said that it was giving the army commander Lt. Gen. Suharto authority
to take whatever measures he “deemed necessary” to restore order to the
chaotic situation during the Indonesian killings of 1965 – 1966.

The abbreviation “Supersemar” is a play on the name of Semar, the mystic

and powerful figure who commonly appears in Javanese mythology including
wayang puppet shows. The invocation of Semar was presumably intended to
help draw on Javanese mythology to lend support to Suharto’s legitimacy
during the period of the transition of authority from Sukarno to Suharto.

In effect, the Supersemar came to be seen as the key instrument of the

transfer of executive power from Sukarno to Suharto.

9. Proclamation of Indonesian Independence

The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence  was read at 10.00 a.m. on
Friday, 17 August 1945.

The declaration marked the start of the diplomatic and armed resistance of
the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting against the forces of the
Netherlands and pro-Dutch civilians, until the latter officially acknowledged
Indonesia’s independence in 1949.

The Netherlands declared that they had decided to accept de facto 17

August 1945 as Indonesia’s independence date. The United Nations, who
mediated in the conflict, formally acknowledge the date of independence as
27 December 1949.

The document was signed by Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, who were
appointed president and vice-president respectively the following day.
10. General Offensive of 1 March 1949
The Dutch launched a military offensive on 19 December 1948 which it termed
Operation Crow.
By the following day it had conquered the city of Yogyakarta, the location of the
temporary Republican capital. By the end of December, all major Republican held
cities in Java and Sumatra were in Dutch hands.
The Republican President, Vice-President, and all but six Republic of Indonesia
ministers were captured by Dutch troops and exiled on Bangka Island off the east
coast of Sumatra.
In areas surrounding Yogyakarta and Surakarta, Republican forces refused to
surrender and continued to wage a guerrilla war under the leadership of Republican
military chief of staff General Sudirman who had escaped the Dutch offensives. An
emergency Republican government, was established in West Sumatra.
On March 1, 1949 at 6 am, Republican forces launched March 1 General Offensive.
The Offensive caught the Dutch by surprise. For his part, Hamengkubuwono IX
allowed his palace to be used as a hide out for the troops. For 6 hours, the
Indonesian troops had control of Yogyakarta before finally retreating.
The Offensive was a moral and diplomatic success, inspiring demoralised troops all
around Indonesia, as well as proving to the United Nations that the Indonesian
army still existed and were capable of fighting. On the other hand, the offensive
had demoralized the Dutch forces, because they never thought that Indonesian
forces could assault and control the city, even for a few hours.

Personal narratives provide invaluable insights into the human aspect of historical events, offering perspectives that are often absent in official records. Experiences, such as those recounted during an earthquake or historical moments like the Battle of Surabaya, illuminate the physical and emotional challenges faced by individuals. These stories reveal the immediate impact on daily lives, the resilience, and the subjective understanding of events by those involved. They enhance our understanding by adding depth and texture to historical events, ensuring that history is not merely a record of dates and facts but a tapestry of human experience and sentiment .

The Rokosskaya operation, part of the broader conflict during the Battle of Surabaya, resulted in severe destruction and significant loss of life. While the city fell under colonial control relatively swiftly, the determination of the Indonesian defenders who continued to resist for three weeks left a lasting legacy. The extensive damage compelled many residents to flee, resulting in a refugee crisis. Yet, it also reinforced the residents' resolve to support the national cause, contributing to heightened morale and ongoing resistance across the nation. This galvanization was critical in sustaining the momentum of the independence movement and is honored in Indonesia's annual Heroes’ Day celebration .

The sinking of the Titanic transcended mere maritime disaster, permeating cultural consciousness as a symbol of technological hubris and human tragedy. The event's portrayal in popular media, particularly through James Cameron's 1997 film 'Titanic,' reimagines the historical event through a narrative of romance across class lines, intertwining personal stories with the spectacular nature of the disaster. This approach amplified the emotional connection and sustained audience interest, making the disaster not only a historical episode but a cultural touchstone. The film reinforced and broadened the Titanic's legend, embedding it deeply into popular culture and collective memory worldwide .

Recount texts, with their structured narrative format, are highly effective in documenting and communicating personal experiences because they present events in a clear chronological order, making the narrative easy to both write and understand. They typically include elements such as an orientation, series of events, and reorientation or conclusion, which provide a comprehensive overview of the experience. By adhering to this structure, recount texts facilitate an organized approach to capturing the essence of daily occurrences, allowing individuals to reflect on their experiences thoughtfully. This format aids in preserving memories and can enhance readers’ empathy and understanding by vividly depicting the personal significance and emotional dimensions of everyday events .

The Battle of Surabaya had a critical influence on international opinion by demonstrating the significant local support for Indonesian independence and the willingness of Indonesians to fight fiercely for their sovereignty. The battle, despite its heavy casualties, was a pivotal moment in unifying and galvanizing Indonesian national sentiment, which resonated internationally. It persuaded Britain to reconsider its position and lean towards neutrality in the conflict. Moreover, it prompted the UK to support the Republican cause in the United Nations in subsequent years, thereby enhancing international pressure on the Dutch to negotiate, ultimately leading to the formal acknowledgment of Indonesian independence .

Experiencing natural disasters can lead to a range of psychological and emotional effects, such as trauma, heightened anxiety, and stress, as illustrated through personal narratives. These narratives often emphasize the immediate confusion and fear during the disaster, as well as the subsequent sense of loss and dislocation seen in the aftermath. The suddenness and unpredictability of such events can challenge individuals' sense of security and control, leading to long-term psychological impact. However, they can also highlight resilience, community solidarity, and a reevaluation of priorities in life, often becoming transformative experiences that change personal and collective perspectives towards life and survival .

Recount texts play a crucial role in shaping public perception and memory of historical events by providing a narrative structure that is accessible and engaging. By transforming factual recounts into compelling stories, these texts often emphasize certain aspects like personal heroism, dramatic turns, or moral messages, which resonate more profoundly with audiences. This storytelling approach can sometimes lead to a romanticized or simplified version of events, potentially obscuring complexities or factual accuracies but ultimately ensuring that the events remain alive in public memory and discourse. Such narratives support the cultural and national identity-building process by offering continuity and connecting contemporary society to its historical roots .

The Supersemar document marked a pivotal moment in Indonesian history, facilitating the transition from President Sukarno's 'Guided Democracy' to General Suharto's 'New Order' regime. By effectively granting Suharto authority to take necessary actions to restore order, the document symbolized the shift in power. Its invocation of Javanese mythology through the term 'Supersemar' lent cultural legitimacy to Suharto, aiding his consolidation of power. Politically, it marked a turning point exacerbated by the chaotic situation during the Indonesian killings of 1965-1966, ultimately leading to a repressive and authoritarian governance style under Suharto, which had profound implications for Indonesia's future political landscape .

The strategic decision to burn Bandung was influenced by the overwhelming military power of the British forces accompanied by NICA. The Indonesian forces, composed of TRI and local militias, realized they could not match the British strength, leading them to deliberately set fires with the aim of preventing the British from utilizing the resources of the city. This scorched-earth strategy was adopted to deny the enemy any advantage from capturing a fully intact city, highlighting the resolve and desperation of the Indonesian forces. This action had a significant psychological impact and became a symbol of resistance, although it resulted in large-scale destruction and displacement of civilians .

The General Offensive on March 1, 1949, demonstrated to both Indonesian and international observers that the Indonesian forces were still capable of organized and effective military action, despite being under significant strain. For the Indonesians, this offensive served as a much-needed morale booster, reinforcing the resolve of troops and civilians in their fight for independence. It significantly demoralized the Dutch forces by showing their vulnerabilities; the surprise element, even though brief, was potent enough to challenge their perceived dominance. The operation also strategically caught the attention of the international community, particularly prompting the United Nations to pay closer attention to the issues in Indonesia, contributing both to the morale of the Indonesian forces and the pressure on the Dutch to negotiate .
