Surge Protection and Motor Starting Solutions

The document contains solutions to two questions. For question 14, the summary is that the 2011 edition of BS 7671 requires all electrical installations after January 2012 to include surge protection devices, so the answer is true. For question 13, the summary is that direct online starting of high-rating motors would cause undervoltage since the voltage drop of all motors would be added, but star-delta starters mitigate this, so the answer considering only DOL starting would be undervoltage.

Solution question 14:

The edition of BS 7671 published on  1 July 2011 and which came into effect on 1 January 2012,requires
all electrical installation after 1 january 2012 to include correct selection and installation of surge
protection devices(SPD).Thus the answer will be TRUE.

Solution question 13:

As in an induction motor, the voltage drop is given by V=Ldi/dt,where L=inductance of the

and the supply voltage will be [Link] in star-delta starter this problem is

protection against overcurrent during starting.

Now, for the question considering DOL starter as there is no mention of star-delta starter, the
answer will be undervoltage.
