as a young terrific day to you
kids together we'll explore
discover and find answers to the
mysteries of the world through
science i am your grade 5
science teacher
today we will learn about the ways to control soil erosion
are you excited let's go
join me let's enter the kingdom where
fun and exciting learning experiences are
about to happen
let's recall i will be flashing a table on
the screen, you have learned from the previous lesson about the agents of erosion.
What i want you to do is to brainstorm about ways on how you can lessen the erosion
that occurs. Make the agents of erosion as your guideline. I'll give you 2 min. to
do the activity
Are you done? Very Good!
i know you have your own answers in mind, Now sit back and relax as we discuss the
ways to control soil erosion, For you to know if the answers you all gathered are
correct.
Here are our lesson objectives for today, you shall achieve.
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
- Define the ways to control soil rosion.
- Share thoughts, observation, experience about the lesson ways to control soil
erosion.
- Perform and observe doing the activity preventing soil erosion.
So now, let’s proceed to our Group Activity, are you excited?
Okay, In this activity you will need a shoebox, dried leaves, soil/sand, and
grasses
For the first part of this activity, what I want you to do is from the earlier
discussions, plan your own model to show one way of minimizing the harmful effects
of soil erosion.
You are free to use materials found around you other than those indicated
above.
Then, Explain how your model works.
For the next part of this activity I want you to visit a garden, look for an area
with and without plants.
2. Pour slowly 1 liter of water over each soil area with plants and without
plants.
3. Observe the movement of the soil.
4. Answer the following questions.
a. Which soil area was easily carried away by running water?
So as you observed the soil area without plants was easily carried away by running
water.
b. What prevented the soil from being easily carried away by running
water?
As you can see the plants have roots prevented the soil from being easily carried
away by running water
I have a question for you kids. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR) had long imposed a ban on illegal logging especially on the mountainsiders
to prevent any incidents of landslides during the rainy season. How does this help
in the prevention of landslides?
Very Good, this will help in preventing landslides to happen because it will secure
the lifespan of the trees that also help us in grasping its roots to the soil
during the rainy season.
are you still with me? good! let's summarize it class. To day you have learned
that...
So now let's recall, what are the ways to control soil erosion. I'll give you 1
min. to make a list of it.
Again the ways to control soil erosion are
- Natural Vegetation
- Contour Plowing
- Strip Cropping
- Terracing
- Crop Rotation
- Riprapping
Perfect!
Before I give to you, your short quiz for today I want you to Make a poster to
raise awareness on the importance of forest and ways to conserve it.
Here are the rubrics to be considered for doing this task.
Creativity and Originality : 40%
Relevance to the theme : 40%
Overall impact and Presentation : 20%
Total : 100 %
Are you done? Now you can give your outputs to your parents to be submitted to me
on Friday.
lend me your ears and eyes as i begin to give you the direction For your short quiz
for today, I want you to Match the items in Column A with the items in Column B.
Write the letter of the correct answer on a sheet of paper.

without human interference b.
contour plowing
_________2. Insted of plowing up and down, farmers c. crop rotation
should flow across the slope to form ridges. d.
natural vegetation
_________3. Alternately planting different crops in e. riprapping
strips.
f. strip cropping
_________4. Involves planting on terraces or steps g. terracing
built on slopes of mountainside. h.

_________5. Planting crops on a different spot each
year.
_________6. Chunks of stones of rocks are arrange on
the edge of the slope.
B. Answer the following questions briefly. (7 pts. each)
1. How do forests play a vital role in controlling soil erosion?
2. How can you help in restoring our denuded forests so as to help control soil
erosion?
I'll give you 3 min. to finish your quiz.
Are you done? Now you can give your answer sheet to your parents along with your
outputs to be submitted to me on Friday.
do you think that you get a perfect
score let's find out after I check you answer sheets.
However let's all clap for ourselves
you did a great job
that's the end of our lesson i hope
you've learned something new today
this is your grade 5
science teacher
always remember make it a habit to study, it works! till next time
