Davao City Furniture Supply Chain Study

Chapter 2 outlines the methodology of a research study using a quantitative descriptive correlational method, focusing on home furniture companies in Davao City. The study involved 100 respondents selected through purposive sampling and utilized a modified survey questionnaire to gather primary data. Statistical tools such as mean and Pearson-r were employed for data analysis to assess the relationship between supply chain management strategy and performance.

Chapter 2

METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the discussions on the research design, research

locale, population and sample, research instruments, data collection and

statistical tool.

Research Design

The researchers use of the quantitative descriptive correlational method.

Descriptive method of research helps researchers plan and carry out

descriptive studies, designed to provide rich descriptive details about people,

place and other phenomena. According to Adanza (2009) the result from a

descriptive research can be used as a definitive answer or to disprove a

hypothesis but, if the limitations are understood, they can still be a useful tool

in many areas of research.

Research Locale

The study was conducted on the ten selected home furniture companies in

Davao City. The City is considered a trading and commerce hub and the most

highly urbanized cities in the Philippines. It is in this context that the

researchers selected Davao City as their research locale due to the

convenience of conducting the study.

Population and Sample

The respondents of this research was composed of one hundred (100)

respondents from the ten (10) selected home furniture companies using the

purposive sampling technique, which had produced a sample that can be

logically assumed to be representative of the population. Purpose sampling

also known as judgmental, selective or subjective sampling. They were given

a survey questionnaire consisting of the level of supply chain management

strategy and performance.

Research Instrument

This study used the primary data using a modified survey questionnaire

covering the different indicators of the variables. The questionnaire were

randomly distributed to the respondents after getting the necessary from the

home furniture company administrator.

Numerical Value Descriptive Equivalent Descriptive Interpretation

4.50 - 5.00 Very High Completely agreed with the stated idea

3.50 - 4.49 High Very much agreed with the stated idea

2.50 - 3.49 Moderately High Somehow agreed with the stated idea

1.50 - 2.49 Low Opposed to the stated idea

1.00 - 1.49 Very Low Completely opposed to the stated idea

Data Collection

The researchers asked permission through a formal letter duty noted by the

thesis adviser, to conduct the study. Another letter of request to conduct a

study will be send to the manager of the home furniture companies in Davao

City. After getting the needed permissions, the researchers distributed the

adapted survey questionnaires to selected respondents. The researches had

retrieved the survey questionnaires and tabulated all the data that subjected ti

statistical analysis and interpreted based on the statement of the problem of

the study.

Statistical Tool

The following statistical tools used in the computation and testing the

hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance.

Mean. This was used to determine the level of supply chain management

strategy and performance of home furniture companies in Davao City.

Pearson-r. This was used to measure the significant relationship between

supply chain management strategy and performance.
