1. Other than what were already given on the video, think and give 5 more examples of the
strengths of the Filipino character. (3 points)
The following are some of the other examples of how Filipino characters makes
them distinct to other nation. First is when foreigners go into their country, they treat
them as part of their family which made them known for being hospitable. Second,
Filipinos have strong personality especially the eldest of the family. They are held as
accountable for their siblings, and they even share responsibility to their parents. Third,
Filipinos are giver even if they don’t have more, and what they have is exactly what they
need, they always tend to give what they have in their hands. Fourth, Filipinos are
adoptive to changes. When Covid 19 happens, many Filipinos lost their jobs however it
doesn’t stop them to provide for their family. Filipinos always find ways in order to
provide for their family amidst every situation. And last, Filipinos are very supportive.
Whenever there are achievements that are done by their countrymen they always
celebrate as a whole nation to show their support.
2. By simple reflection, we can see how our strengths in character as Filipinos, can become
our very own weaknesses to our detriment. Take two of the examples of Filipino
strengths you listed above and show how these strengths can turn into our weaknesses at
the same time, to our own disadvantage. (5 points) Please use your own words and limit

Being a cheerful giver is one of the good traits of being a Filipino. Giving to other
people is their top priority, especially to the family members. However, even in the times
that they are empty-handed, and someone asks for help, they always find ways to give
just to lessen the burden of others. This happens mostly in Filipino households. In the
Philippines, everyone is held accountable for the members of the family. Filipino value
more the bond that is why they are afraid to refuse to help. And this is one of our toxic
traits that is present until now.
Filipinos are known for being family oriented. However, due to strong bonds,
some families tend to be fully reliant and dependent on the provider of the family. And
this factor could be one of the disadvantages of this culture which could result in a lack of
responsibility and individual growth as a person. Second, Filipinos are known for being
religious. However, the bad side of having this mentality is that becoming too religious
makes a person dogmatic and arrogant. The teachings and doctrines that they lived and
believed cannot be changed and it is their absolute truth.
3. Doing your own analysis, what specific Filipino culture are factors that turn what
supposed to be a strong Filipino quality into weakness that prevent us to be moral or
ethical people? Cite two cultural factors and explain how they turn our character
strengths into weaknesses. Illustrate with examples. (5 points) Use your own words and

4. What steps would you take to address the problem in order to change the culture you
cited above (#3) to help our nation become more ethical group of individuals instead of

The issues stated above are still present in this generation. The things that we
could do to change this mentality were to educate ourselves and to find decent work so
that we can break the stigma of being reliant and dependent on our parents or to the
provider of the family. And the next issue about being devoted in religion will be
addressed properly if religious people (Philippines is a Christian country) are open and
adoptive to changes when stated with facts and when they truly understand that
relationship with the Lord matters the most than being dogmatic and arrogant due to their
religion.
