Endocrine System Anatomy & Physiology

The endocrine system is made up of glands that secrete hormones to regulate various bodily functions. The major glands include the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries, testes, thymus and pineal gland. Each gland secretes specific hormones that control functions such as growth and development, mood, metabolism, sexual development and reproduction. Hormones act as chemical messengers to influence target organs and regulate important physiological processes throughout the body.
