John is a Grade 12 student of Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Integrated School. His grandfather, Mr.

Roberto
Quiwa, who has been a lantern maker for thirty years, has taught him how to make one as lantern
making has been their legacy throughout their generation.

Mr. Quiwa has a great imagination in mixing different colors and materials in designing lanterns. He uses
his innovative skills in making different shapes and figures. He is a renowned lantern maker for his works
in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga. His lanterns are for export to varied countries in Asia. It is his
way to promote the Kapampangan culture to other nations.

He is determined to revitalize the light of the faltering stage of the Kapampangan. It is widely known
that Pampanga was one of the most affected provinces when Mt Pinatubo erupted. By making lanterns,
he believes that it will give hope to all Kapampangans to strive hard and make their lives better.
