Accounting Research Methods Reflection

1) As a researcher, the author is expected to use their past research experience to gain new skills and further explore their strengths and interests in their chosen field. 2) When conducting research, the researcher must carefully set goals and objectives and consider several factors before beginning, as research requires a complex process and methodology rather than just providing opinions. 3) The researcher's study should benefit not just themselves but also be significant to their field of interest and future researchers. The goal is for research to build useful ideas, provide insights, answers to questions, and solutions to problems.

REFLECTION: What is expected for me as a researcher?

Researchers carry out research and the rest of the world benefits from their findings. This
proves that, the lives we enjoy now are all products of research. All things we do which we think
we can’t are also because of research. It is studies which seeks to answers every question to the
problem and provides reasonable solutions to enrich our lives with the knowledge that will
makes us more productive and contribute to the development of ourselves, other people and the
society we live in.

As a college student, research wasn’t new to me at all. It has been part of my academic
life as I start doing research when I was in high school. It is very satisfying that I am able to
finish a research paper before. Despite of stressful days and sleepless nights, it has been paid off.
As a researcher, I’ve realized through my experience that research I not hard as long as we are in
line with the process. The process is given, the resources are provided, and all we need to do is to
exert an effort, to give our time and attention in order to come up with a desired result.

What is expected for me as a researcher this school year is that I will use my past
research experience to gain new skills and further explore my strength and pursue my interest in
my chosen field. In conducting research, the very first step it to set our goals and objectives.
There are several considerations that we need to address before conducting a research. It is not
just a simple essay of reflection where we can just give our opinion freely, but is more
complicated and have a lot of process and methods to do. As a researcher, it is expected for us
that our research is beneficial. Our research study must benefit not just ourselves for compliance
but will be significant to our field of interest and the future researchers.

We need to set in our mind that research is an open door or an avenue where we can build
useful ideas, provide insights, answers questions and provide solutions to a problem. Therefore,
as a researcher, I will consider this as a challenge, set my goals and ready myself for the process.
There are times that we do experiments where don’t go as well as planned or give us an
unexpected result, but in this case it is far different because it will give us the opportunity to
question the process, make changes and to think beyond.

Common questions

Effort, time, and attention are crucial for achieving desired research outcomes. Researchers must dedicate sufficient effort in aligning with the correct processes and methodologies. Time management is essential to ensure that all phases of the research—from planning to execution—are completed efficiently. Attention to detail helps in maintaining the quality and accuracy of the research, allowing for reliable and valid results .

The societal benefits from research highlight the importance of the researcher's role in contributing to knowledge creation that can improve lives and societal development. Researchers are responsible for conducting studies that can answer critical questions, solve problems, and drive innovation. This role underscores the necessity for research that is purposeful and impactful, providing long-lasting benefits beyond individual or academic compliance .

When experiments do not go as planned, researchers face challenges such as questioning their methods, reassessing objectives, and potentially redoing significant parts of their work. They should respond by analyzing the unexpected results to understand potential flaws or alternative interpretations. Researchers can also use this opportunity to refine their methods and hypotheses, ultimately contributing to a deeper scientific inquiry and innovation .

Goal-setting in research establishes a clear direction and purpose for the study. It helps in aligning the research efforts with specific objectives, ensuring that the process is systematic and the outcomes are meaningful. This step is significant because it sets the foundation for the methodology, guiding data collection and analysis to produce valid and useful results. It also prepares researchers to adapt and refine their approaches if initial experiments do not yield expected outcomes .

Researchers are expected to carry out research that benefits not only themselves in terms of academic compliance but also provides significant contributions to their field of interest and future researchers. The research process should enrich lives, make individuals more productive, and contribute to the development of society by providing answers to questions and solutions to problems .

Unexpected results in research can be beneficial as they present opportunities to question existing processes, develop new hypotheses, and explore alternative explanations. This can lead to greater innovation and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. By challenging existing assumptions, researchers might discover novel insights that significantly advance their field .

Previous research experience provides the researcher with essential skills and insights that can be leveraged in new projects. It helps in setting realistic goals, understanding the research process, and managing resources effectively. This experience allows the researcher to explore their strengths, pursue interests in their chosen field, and improve productivity by adhering to established methods and processes .

Researchers need to align with fundamental processes and methods such as defining clear objectives, following systematic data collection and analysis protocols, and adhering to ethical guidelines. These processes and methods are crucial for ensuring research validity, reliability, and integrity. They provide a structured approach that aids in producing credible and reproducible results, ultimately contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the credibility of the research field .

A researcher's mindset is crucial in navigating the complexities of the research process. Having a mindset open to learning, adaptation, and resilience enables researchers to tackle challenges effectively. It involves being prepared to modify approaches when results are not as expected and viewing each challenge as an opportunity for growth and deeper understanding. This mindset facilitates a proactive and thoughtful engagement with the research, enhancing productivity and outcomes .

Viewing research as more than just compliance is important because it instills a sense of purpose and responsibility, leading to more dedicated and thorough investigations. This perspective encourages researchers to focus on the broader implications and potential impacts of their work, striving for excellence and innovation rather than merely fulfilling academic requirements. It affects the research process by motivating more rigorous methodology and a genuine commitment to producing valuable insights and solutions .
