Introduction :

Petrobel one of companies had most high technology in gas treatment , the company had 4 fields , 11
turbines and compression area , cooling area , ( LTS ) unit to separate gas in low temperature , stabilizers
, ( GR ) glycol regeneration unit , furnaces and many equipment in gas treatment …

This report is summary for what happened in 8 days of training in company , training starts every day in
9:00 Am and ends in 12:30 Pm , so in the day number one .. that was in 18 Augest 2019 , we met in
meeting room and had a general knowledge about safety by Eng / Mohamed taha , knew the difference
between healthy environment and safety environment , most safe transportation methods and how to
decrease ratio of accident in work area .

Then , Eng / Ahmed lo’ai came and gave us general background on how company work , names of
equipment inside the field and how it works in very short words .

Day tow ..

Eng / Ahmed lo’ai came to complete explain which he started the day before , follow him Eng / Elaraby
hussien ( maintenance manager ) to fill up information to be ready to enter field tomorrow , also talked
on how the fields depends on itself to generate electricity which run all machines and equipment and
how Petrobel makes many of community assistance in Portsaid .

Day three ..

This day is the first day we had talked technical , each one in his filed , we went to ( DCS ) and met Eng /
Tarek Mahran and Eng / Mohamed Anwar whom had explained how full station works , how each field
of 4 fields includes different equipment which run and makes specific treatment stage , starting from
slug catcher through turbines compressor then air cooler and ( LTS ) unit with ( John Thompson valve ) .

And how avoid making hydrate in pipes after ( JTV ) , how glycol separate water away , how ( GR ) unit
work by heat , safety valves and flare and burning exhausting gases .

But the explain was on big board to ingest how each component works inside first and then , we can
enter the field easily .

One of trainee sick suddenly , I saw most fastest movement ever from all crew and engineers honestly ,
and recall doctor’s company to treat her from anything , they took her to medical unit to make some
checks .. that was a very special action .

Day four ..
We went easily and directly to the first treatment gas field ( Portfouad field ) with Eng / Mohamed
Anwar , he explained most of the Previously talking but when we are walking around machines .. this is
better , I now can understand and explain the following definitions :

 Slug catcher : the equipment which separates slugs and water principled after the first separator
near the well , separating run by gravity .
 Low temperature separator : separator which condensate water saturated in gas by cooling and
throating to separate it away from gas .
 Glycol : material that absorbs water from gas .
 Glycol regeneration unit : unit which regenerate glycol to use it again by heat it to above 100 C
to evaporate all water inside it .
 Air cooler : big fans cooling gas which comes from compressor , the temperature loses in this
stage about 20 C .
 Compressor : compress gas to allow make throating after many stages , result for compress gas
is increase in temperature of gas .
 Heat exchanger : first stage in ( LTS ) which run by making gas in high temperature passing
through narrow pipes surrounded by cold gas to make loses in temperature .
Then we went to apply ( Hysys ) , and how it calculate numbers of pressure in different places in pipe
web and more more calculation operation .

Day five ..

I absent Unfortunately .. sorry .

Day six ..

Went to ( DCS ) again and met Eng / Islam Fathallah and Eng / Mohamed Nasr , Eng / Islam explained
how production run offshore and its operation in summary , he talked about types of rocks offshore and
types of drilling methods there , licenses to go offshore and some personal skills he had accepted from
work in sea .
Day seven ..

Went directly to the ( Temsah field ) and ( Denis field ) to complete what we stopped at the last time ,
Eng / Islam continue types of heat exchanger , one of them adjust gas temperature before pushing gas
to production pipe .

Then went to ( DCS ) of ( Denis field ) to see how they control valves in emergency cases .

Day eight ..

Decided to visit ( Chemical lab ) which dissect samples to see if all numbers are good and in normal case
or not , I met Eng / Mahmoud Elgharabawy and started explain how computer analyze component of
sample , but this operation takes more than 30 min , how to measure efficiency of glycol and ratio of
water inside it before entre ( GR ) unit .

Finally What I want to know is what the best way and behavior can petroleum engineer do in every
problem in field .. easy to know what the probable problem in every equipment by mechanism of
working , but the best and fastest behavior needs more experience .
Certification

I want to thank every one help me along time of training

The sequence in Petrobel's gas treatment field starts with the slug catcher, which separates slugs and water. This is followed by turbines and compressors, air coolers for cooling gas, and the LTS unit with a John Thompson valve. Each piece is tailored for specific treatment stages within the gas processing workflow .

Petrobel avoids hydrate formation in pipelines by ensuring effective separation of water using glycol, which absorbs water from the gas. Additionally, equipment like the Low Temperature Separator helps minimize water presence, reducing the risk of hydrate buildup .

The Low Temperature Separator (LTS) unit condenses water saturated in the gas by cooling and throating, allowing it to separate from the gas. This step is crucial to ensure the purity of the gas post-treatment .

The glycol regeneration unit is used to regenerate and reuse glycol by heating it above 100°C to evaporate all the water it absorbed. This process enables the continuous use of glycol in water separation tasks .

The Distributed Control System (DCS) at Petrobel plays a crucial role in emergencies by controlling valve operations, ensuring system stability, and allowing operators to make real-time decisions to prevent accidents and mitigate risks during critical situations .

Heat exchangers at Petrobel help manage gas temperature by passing high-temperature gas through narrow pipes surrounded by cold gas, which reduces gas temperature effectively. This process is integral to the LTS function, ensuring efficient separation and treatment .

Safety measures at Petrobel include understanding the difference between healthy and safety environments, safe transportation methods, and strategies to reduce accident ratios. Employees receive comprehensive safety training starting from day one of their training sessions .

Personal skills crucial for offshore work, as explained by Eng. Islam Fathallah, include the ability to adapt to different drilling methods and environmental conditions, understanding offshore licenses, and having the flexibility to work in varying rock types and challenging sea conditions .

Petrobel contributes to community assistance in Portsaid by utilizing its fields and infrastructure to generate electricity for its operations, which indirectly supports local community development through enhanced energy availability .

The HYSYS simulation at Petrobel calculates pressure numbers in different pipeline sections, allowing engineers to predict and optimize gas flows, manage equipment efficiently, and anticipate operational issues. This enhances the overall efficiency and reliability of the gas treatment process .
