BPA 12203- MATHEMATICS FOR MANAGEMENT
SEM I 2021/2022
PROJECT ASSIGNMENT & PRESENTATION
1. Answer the question Q1 and Q2 and submit your report (Answer
Scripts). Use cover page given.
2. Create a video presentation based on the given topic.
3. Fill out honestly the PEER EVALUATION FORM based on your own
performance and followed by evaluating the performance of each
member of your group
4. Please submit all necessary documents before or on 14 January 2022
Q1 The area is a measure of the surface of a two-dimensional region. The
area of regions that have basic geometrical shapes such as rectangles,
squares, triangles, circles and trapezoids. Just as definite integrals can be
used to find the area under a curve, they can also be used to find the area
between two curves. Give an example of how to determine the area of a
region between two curves by integrating with respect to the
independent variable, find the area of a compound region and
determine the area of the region between two curves by integrating with
respect to the dependent variable.
Q2 Farmer Anuar must determine how many acres of corn and paddy to
plant this year. An acre of paddy yields 25 bushels of paddy and requires
10 hours of labor per week. An acre of corn yields 10 bushels of corn and
requires 4 hours of labor per week. All paddy can be sold at RM4.0 a
bushel, and all corn can be sold at RM3.0 a bushel. Seven acres of land
and 40 hours per week of labor are available. Government regulations
require that at least 30 bushels of corn be produced during the current
year. Let x represents the number of acres of corn planted, and y
represents the number of acres of paddy planted. Using these decision
variables, formulate an LP whose solution will tell Farmer Anuar how
to maximize the total revenue from paddy and corn.
Group Presentation Topic:
In this project, students are required to identify an object with sphere shape
(example: ball). Hence, determine the volume of sphere by comparing
integration and any relevance method to determine the volume. The
comparison of these methods must be discussed. The derivation for volume of
sphere should be shown in the project report.
The Aims:
1. Student should be able to suggest the best method to determine sphere
volume.
2. Student should be able to apply the integration and compare the result
with any scientific method.
3. Student should be able to clearly present the comparison method in
project report.
Instructions:
1. Prepare a video presentation on the given title/project.
2. The video shall include scope coverage, quality of examples and related
calculation, and must be in proper arrangement and tidiness. Students
are expected to present materials which are not directly covered in the
classroom.
3. The video presentation shall consist of the following content:
a. Introduction
b. Related Theories/definition/theorem
c. Example application or calculation
d. Discussion & Conclusion
e. References
4. Video presentation must be present in English. The duration of the video
must be between 5-10 minutes.
Good luck!
