CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM, ITS BACKGROUND AND REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Introduction

Jack Stand is a strong crafted metal built to ease the pressure of the car

weights and maintain the position after its elevation, This tool is being use when fixing

the problem/issue under our car, it helps us not only to fixed the position of our car after

lifting from the ground using Jack but also to minimize the danger of our mechanic.

According to James Hoffmann (2015) more than 15,000 work-related injuries

were reported by mechanics alone. Add to this a possibly large number of unreported

injuries, and the total figure could be more alarming.

Correspondingly, the innovator mechanics continuously seeks various ways to

improve the safety while working by innovating our tools and equipment, train and

seminar for safety and proper way to use tools.

This concern has been introduced to us that we the technological researcher are

reducing that risk of being in danger while the mechanics are working in this particular

aspect of repairing of Under Chassis Repair using Jack Stand

Throughout decades of repairing under car issue we use a brick, pile of wood or

even a rock with undefinable shape to support the position of our car after elevating it by

a Jack and there is an innovation to that, and were going to provide more convenient

and with safety measure version of that product.

Background of the study

The Researchers have tried to improve jack stand tools since there have been

concerns reported in the past, such as automobile wrecks caused by weak steel that did

not last as long including those shown in the product. Because of lock is still threaded

and not fixed, if lock is missing, and there is a chance to fall out at any moment if the

Screw that you used is low quality. Another difficulty is if you make a mistake with the

jack stand location, you may end up damaging your vehicle. So we decided to conduct

the study to improve the jack stand and the product we've chosen, we'll replace the jack

stand's mechanism so it doesn't get lost, and we'll lengthen the car's handle so he has a

good grasp and can correctly balance the vehicle. We'll also make it simpler for you to

use our service.

In Valenzuela City, our improvised product will facilitate and secure the safety of

every vehicle worker, the effect of our improvised product will benefit the constituents or

workers of the government of Valenzuela

In Valenzuela City Polytechnic College, the effect of our improved product will

help us, or the automotive constructors and the next generation, in making things easier

for them to use it, and they will have no difficulty using it, and we have also improved

safety.

Foreign Literature

A jack stand is an essential tool for providing a safe work environment inside and

underneath cars, trucks, or trailers.

Not only do jack stands protect technicians who need to work underneath

vehicles, but they also provide stability for personnel while loading and unloading cargo

trailers. See SafeRack’s line of jack stands

Jack stands generally consist of an adjustable A-shaped base frame, a ratcheting

post with a platform for supporting vehicles, and a ratchet handle mechanism.
VALENZUELA CITY POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE
Kamagong St. Fortune Village VI, Parada Valenzuela City

While you can use most jack stand models to lift a vehicle upward, the stand’s

ratcheting mechanism must be disengaged in order to lower it. This is virtually

impossible to do, as you would need to be able to lift the vehicle with your bare hands.

This solid mechanical stop provides exponentially more support than the hydraulics of

your floor jack.

Foreign Study

While hydraulic floor jacks can lift vehicles quickly and easily, they can (and likely

will) occasionally fall — especially cheap models. This puts you and your vehicle at risk.

Floor jacks also provide only one point of contact, which can leave your vehicle unstable

and prone to tipping if you lift it from the middle.

Not only do jack stands protect you and your vehicle from falling floor jacks, but

they also provide multiple points of contact that help you avoid tipping issues.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design
The descriptive method of research was used in conducting this study since it

aims to describe the situation of using Jack Stand as a helping hand while working in a

particular aspect of repairing car where Jack elevate the car in certain point that our

mechanic will have space under the chassis and by using this research product the

Jack stand that can stabilize the car and the safety of the mechanics from the elevation

of the car from the ground. The research Jack stand is not only for what it is called but

also has an additional feature while using: easy to use, more durable, and secure the

lock of its system.

Garcia (2014) cited that descriptive research aims to describe systematically,

functionally, accurately and objective a situation, problem or phenomena.

Calmorin and Calmorin (2015) cited that descriptive research focuses at the

present condition, the purpose of which is to find new truth. Descriptive research is also

valuable in providing facts on which scientific judgments may be based.

researcher to be able to know if the study was a success or needs improvement.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

After the preparation of the questionnaires that will be used in the survey conducted

by the proponents, the chosen respondents, who are auto mechanics along Mc Arthur

Highway in Valenzuela City, were required to respond to the questionnaire in order to

collect accurate data and information needed for this study.

To determine the results, the data from the survey will be tallied, and the graph will

be used to represent the results.

Statistical Treatment

The data that will be gathered will be test by the following statistical treatment:

1. Percentage

Percentage is one of the most frequent way to represent statistics the symbol is

use to express the percentage (%) this symbol use to determine the percentage

distribution of number of respondents.

Where:

P=percentage

f=frequency
VALENZUELA CITY POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE
Kamagong St. Fortune Village VI, Parada Valenzuela City

n=number of respondents

2. Mean

        This is used to get the mean of the data that will be used for t-test. Mean is the

average of all numbers and it is sometimes called arithmetic. The formula for computing

the mean is given bellow:

Where:

= Pronounced “x-bar”

 Capital sigma for “sum of represent each score of all data values”.

 N = is number of data item in population

3. Degrees of Freedom

The statistical formula to determine degrees of freedom is quite simple. It states

that degrees of freedom equal the number of values in a data set minus 1.

Formula:

df = (r-1)(c-1)

Where:

df =degrees of freedom

r= numbers of row

c=numbers of column

4. Chi-square
VALENZUELA CITY POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE
Kamagong St. Fortune Village VI, Parada Valenzuela City

Chi square will be used to analyze the data gathered in this study. A chi-square

is a test in which is asymptotically true, meaning that the sampling distribution can be

made to approximately a closely as desired by making the sample size large enough.

Formula:

X2=∑

Where:

X2 = the test statistic

O = Observe Value

E = Expected Frequencies

∑ = the sum of (Summation)

5. Expected Frequency

It is a probability count that appears in contingency table calculations including

the chi-square test.

 Formula: rc / n.

Common questions

Powered by AI

The research employs a descriptive method, using survey questionnaires distributed to auto mechanics along Mc Arthur Highway in Valenzuela City. Data gathered are analyzed using statistical treatments such as percentage, mean, and chi-square tests to evaluate the acceptability levels of the adjustable jack stand .

Traditional hydraulic floor jacks, especially cheaper models, can occasionally fall, posing a risk to both mechanics and vehicles. Additionally, they provide only one point of contact, which can cause instability and tipping risks. The improved jack stands aim to address these issues by providing a stable, multi-point contact system that minimizes such risks .

Statistical treatments like chi-square are used to analyze differences in observed and expected frequencies, helping to validate hypotheses about the jack stand's acceptability. The mean provides an average score of responses, offering insights into overall trends in safety, usability, and durability perceptions .

The study aims to benefit auto mechanics by making their work both safer and easier. By improving the jack stands' safety, usability, and durability, the auto mechanics can avoid accidents while ensuring stability under vehicles, which is crucial in their line of work .

Having a solid mechanical stop is significant because it provides much stronger support compared to hydraulic systems, which can fail unexpectedly. Mechanical stops prevent sudden collapse, offering a dependable safety net for mechanics working under vehicles, thus reducing injury and damage risks .

The study benefits students by making their work easier, allowing them to safely adjust jack stand heights. Schools gain insights into mechanical tool innovation, and it can also serve as educational material for teachers. Future researchers are provided a guide and awareness on jack stand improvements, helping in further research developments .

The study ensures accuracy by using well-structured Likert scale-based questionnaires distributed to 50 auto mechanics along McArthur Highway in Valenzuela City. The structured format allows consistent data collection, which is then statistically analyzed to derive meaningful insights about the jack stands .

The conceptual framework structured the study by linking inputs like demographic profiles and product cost with processes including material preparation, experimental analysis, and data gathering, leading to output on the adjustable jack stand's acceptability. It uses feedback on safety, usability, and durability to determine the product's market readiness and improvement areas .

The study proposed to enhance the existing jack stands by replacing the lock mechanism to prevent it from getting lost and lengthening the handle for better grasp and balance. These improvements aim to increase safety by preventing accidents caused by weak steel, low-quality screws, or improper jack stand placement .

Understanding the demographic profile, such as age, gender, and years of experience, is significant as it helps to assess if different user groups perceive the safety, usability, and durability of the adjustable jack stands differently. This information can identify specific needs and preferences across demographics, guiding further improvements .
