Topic 4: People in many countries spend less time with their family
What are the reasons and effects of this?
Nowadays, it is strongly believed that individuals in several parts of countries do not consume lots of
leisure time on their family. There are a number of causes behind this phenomenon and several solutions
should be adopted to bring family members closer.
Firstly, one of the most compelling reasons is that people are experiencing an increase in demanding jobs,
which means that they are totally engrossed in their job and be indifferent to their family. Because of the
pressure of work, they simply lie on the bed after stressful working hours without taking an affectionate
look at family members, let alone creating a close conversation with their family. Secondly, many people
gradually become distant from their family due to the development of advanced technology, which has a
negative impact on the period of time that needs for family. For instance, it is a common fact that more
and more people are immersing themselves in laptops, tablets, smart phones rather than talking each
other. Moreover, they apparently prefer indulging in virtual worlds to having face – to – face
conversations or family gatherings that lead to the stickiness between family members.
However, there are some practical measures for us to take in order to promote family interactions in
modern society. The first solution is that we should ensure a work – life balance, which help individuals
to increase productivity and encourage them to have more time reuniting with their family. Also, parents
ought to provide family trips to their children at weekends to foster the family bond. Simultaneously, it is
a valuable opportunity for family members to deeply acknowledge a variety of different characters,
opinions and hobbies. This means that we will be likely to be sympathetic and tolerant of mistakes.
In conclusion, it is obvious that work and technology have powerfully influenced on individuals’ family
distance but acquiring necessary solutions for this problem is more significant than everything to have
sufficient time to devote our family.
