eHealth in the Philippines

• The application of eHealth ([Link])is mandated by the Department of Health


(DOH)
• eHealth serves an information gateway for eHealth initiatives on the Philippines
which creates space for lifelong learning of health practitioners to improve the
quality of life of the people.
• eHealth refers to the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in
support of health and health-related fields, including health care services, health
surveillance, health literature, and health education, knowledge and research
(WHO, 2019).
eHealth Vision

• “ By 2020 eHealth will enable widespread access to health care services,


health information, and securely share and exchange patients’ information in
support to a safer, quality health care, more equitable and responsive health
system for all the Filipino people by transforming the way information is used
to plan, manage, deliver and monitor health services. “
eHealth Vision

• The strategic vision describes the Philippines Health System that has been
enabled by eHealth. It shows how eHealth will be used to address health
system’s priority goals and challenges to deliver health outcomes.
• The overall goal is to achieve health system goals of financial risk protection,
better health outcomes, and responsive health system for the Filipino people.

Health workers who will be using eHealth in their line of works, health care providers,
information and communication technology workers, and others.
eHealth Solutions

• Required services and applications to enable widespread access to health


care services, health information, health reports, health care activities, and
securely share and exchange patient’s information in support to health system
goals.

• Examples: electronic health/medical/personal records, electronic referrals,


medications management, distance learning and electronic resources,
telemedicine, mobile health, adverse event monitoring, disease surveillance,
among others.
Key Terms on Medical Innovation
mHealth
• Mobile wireless technology that has the potential to improve the quality and coverage of care,
increase access to health information, as well as promote positive behaviors to prevent the
onset of diseases.

Telemedicine
• Telemedicine, a term coined in the 1970s, which literally means “healing at a distance” (1),
• the use of ICT to improve patient outcomes by increasing access to care and medical
information.

Electronic Medical Record


• The digital version of a patient's paper chart.
• Contains patient's medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and laboratory
results.
