Mixed Emotions

Well, my relationship with writing is like a roller coaster, nothing but it just going up and down.

Nothing but mixed emotions poured into my feelings on writing. I have had many struggles with

writing when I first started off. My earliest memory of writing was when I was in the fourth

grade. We had to write a paper on someone. At the time, I didn’t know what a paragraph was or

what it meant, so I just kept writing and writing without separating the paragraphs and turned it

in. Not even ten minutes later, I got called up by the teacher and she asked me “Where is the

spacing between the paragraphs?” I simply replied with a “What’s a paragraph?” After I replied

with that question the teacher looked so mad, she looked as red as a tomato. She had made me

rewrite the whole paper instantly. I have never felt so embarrassed like that in my life. Ever since

that day, I have despised writing.

There have always been those nights where you must stay up all night to finish an essay because

you have been procrastinating. Then you must wake up the next morning with no sleep at all. But

I feel like I do that to myself, and I suffer from it. When I was young, I always found it very

boring, and only did it because it was mandatory for our school assignments. Every time we

would write a paper in middle school in the middle of class, I felt like I was dying of boredom

and decided to take naps. I must admit, those naps were worth it. I didn’t like writing to the point

where I didn’t even turn in my assignments for them.

It continued like this for a while until I reached freshman year of high school. Where in class we

had nothing but freestyle writing. At that point I felt like everything had changed for me and

about how I feel about writing. I finally get to express myself and get to write what I wanted on

paper. Things started taking a turn for the better and I have been enjoying writing for once. I

have finally been able to turn in my assignments in for once. Things took a whole one hundred

eighty-degree angle.

Then COVID hit the United States nationwide. At the moment, we have been in quarantine for a

while, and I tended to grow lazy during the quarantine. When we were having online school,

teachers just kept constantly giving out assignments and essays to be due. At that point I was too

lazy to write, and I started to procrastinate once again. I slowly started to dislike writing at that

point once again. But I at least kept turning in my assignments.

But once my senior year rolled around, I was introduced to this class. There were many different

concepts we got to write about. I have felt like it was like a challenge trying to complete them,

but the type of challenges you enjoy. This class has shown me hope again for writing and I no

longer must face a constant battle between my dislike of writing and of enjoying it.
