2) How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary tasks?
It is important to provide a connection to products in the same category. In my
case I made connections between my ancillary tasks and my Lilly Allen music
video. From my research into various pop artists such as lily Allen, Gwen
Stefani and Katy Perry I could see that they all had links between their
magazine adverts, digipack and music video; therefore knew it was essential to
create this optic link.
Here in Gwen Stefani’s
album advertisement
and album cover you
can see the clear link
as the font is the
same, the colour
scheme, body
language; also this is
where I got the
inspiration to add the
album cover to my
Here in my digipack
you can see the
clear link with the
pink bold font, the
glitter effect and
the same picture of
the protagonist.
In my ancillary tasks I added a continuous subject so the audience could
associate the video, advert and digipack with the artist. In my digipack I used a
vibrant pink bold font for the artist’s name Bailey; I also used the same font for
my magazine advert. This way the audience would be able to identify the
advert with the digipack which is associated to Bailey. Furthermore the same
picture of the protagonist is on the front of the magazine advert and also the
back of the digipack. This way the audience will again be able to make the
connection between the advert and the artist. Like Gwen Stefani’s products
(see above) I have also added the image of my digipack onto my advertisement
creating yet another link. I thought that by doing this, this would integrate the
link further into the audience.
Imagery was taken from my music video and was conjoined with my ancillary
tasks. I extracted the WW1 propaganda from the video to add to the music
advertisement. As independence was one of the main intertextual elements I
wanted to personify this further and get this link out to the audience, that
Bailey was a strong, powerful and independent artist perfect for a role model.
Furthermore I also extracted the images of the feet when she walks down the
park onto my digipack as when the audience see the video on music channels
such as 4music, MTV and other various music platforms they will again make
the connection with the digipack and are more likely to purchase the album. As
I had already integrated the theme of independence and feminism into my
music advertisement and my digipack from my video I wanted to show the
audience the other sides to the artist. She is also a fun, quirky and glamorous
character. I revealed the glamorous side to Bailey with the use of pink text,
pink quirky polka dots and effective pink like glitter. In my music advertisement
and my digipack they both has a pink sparkly effect to them, this corresponds
to the music video as well as the protagonist in the music video is also seen as
feminine with the dressy costumes she wears.
In conclusion I feel confident that I have made an effective link with my music
video and ancillary tasks. I feel there is an effective combination between all
three products. I believe that the audience will be able to identify Bailey with
the advert, digipack and advertisement therefore gaining more fans.
