Impact of Surface Area on Reaction Rate

The reaction rate increases when the concentrations of reactants are raised or when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. Catalysts provide an alternative reaction mechanism with lower activation energy, allowing more collisions to reach the transition state and increase the reaction rate or allow reactions at lower temperatures. When given the amounts of reactants, it is possible to determine the limiting reagent by converting them to moles and determining which reactant will be consumed first.

For 32-36

When the concentrations of the reactants are raised. The reaction proceed more quickly when
solids and liquids reacts, increasing the surface area of the solid will increasing the surface area
of the solid will increase the reaction rate. A decrease in particle size causes on increase in the
solids total surface area, reactions involving two phases more rapidly when there is greater
surface area contact, if temperature or reactant concentration is increased, the rate of a given
reaction generally increases is well.

For 37-40
Catalysts work by providing an (alternative) medanism involving a different transitions state an
lover activation energy_ consequently more molecular collisions have the energy needed to
reach the transition state, the catalysts may increase reaction rate or enable the reaction at
lower temperatures
Examples included:
And elements such as platinum and iridium, palladium and iron

For 41-50
