Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter evaluates the research design and methodologies that will be used in the
study. More elaborately, the chapter shows the procedures followed to collect and analyze the
data; thus, facilitating the answering of the research questions.

Research Design

This study uses the descriptive-correlational research design. This study uses a
descriptive survey method to assess the employees and staff of the Zenith Technology
Incorporation in the City of Biñan, Laguna. The questionnaire proper contains questions about
resourcefulness, and use of creative thinking in achieving efficiency and how one person or team
could use related skills such as resourcefulness and creative thinking.

Sources of Data

The study employed both primary and secondary data. The primary data were the data
collected from surveys and questionnaires. It shows benefits from data gathered from different
respondents. The secondary data were gathered from the World Wide Web, articles, and
literature.

Population of the Study

The population of this study are the employees of Zenith Technology Incorporation in
the City of Biñan, located in Laguna Technopark. The respondents came from the 35 employees
of the said company. The survey technique to be use will be questionnaires for convenient
accessibility of the researchers as well as the respondents. This is to know the resourcefulness
and creative thinking in achieving efficiency in Zenith Technology Incorporation.

Instrumentation and Validation

The primary data that will be used in the study will be gathered using questionnaires after
permission from the Dean of College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) granted and it will be
validated by the panel of experts. This tool was used since it can be an effective means of
measuring the behavior, attitudes, preferences, opinions, and intentions of relatively large
numbers of subjects more cheaply and quickly than other methods.
The researchers will visit Zenith Technology Incorporation to personally conduct surveys
and give questionnaires to the employees.

Evaluation and Scoring

To measure the respondents’ level of opinion about resourcefulness and creative thinking
in achieving efficiency in Zenith Technology Incorporation, the evaluation and scoring tool used
were the following:
Assigned Points Numerical Ranges Resourcefulness Creative Thinking
4 3.00-4.00 Very High Very High
3 2.00-3.00 High High
2 1.00-2.00 Low Low
1 0-1.00 Very Low Very Low

Data Gathering Procedure

In gathering data, questionnaires are considered as the most effective data-gathering

instrument for this descriptive research study. The survey was related to the resourcefulness and
creative thinking in achieving efficiency in Zenith Technology Incorporation in the City of
Biñan, Laguna.

The researchers will prepare a letter of approval to conduct a survey to the Dean of
College of Business and Accountancy of University of Perpetual Help System Laguna. The
researchers will personally distribute the questionnaires to the target respondents and will ask
consent to answer the questions provided. Participants will be given enough time to answer and
the researchers will collect the survey forms. After accumulating all the answered questionnaires
from the respondents, total responses for each item will be gained and tabulated.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The data that will be going to acquire from the respondents will be categorized
systematically to be able to obtain accurate information related to each of the elements of the
target respondents.

Statistical Treatment of Data

• Percentage: this will used to determine a portion of information as a part of the whole.
This is use to describe the demographic profile of the respondents.
• Weighted mean: this will be used to determine the respondents’ (a) level of
resourcefulness, and (b) level of creative thinking in the workplace.
• Pearson r: this will be used to determine if there is significant relationship between the
respondents’ level of resourcefulness and level of creative thinking in the workplace.

Common questions

The data is systematically categorized to align with relevant elements, and the use of validated questionnaires helps ensure accuracy and relevance. Further, expert validation of the instrument and comprehensive statistical treatment of data contribute to meaningful insights .

The study ensures the validity by having the questionnaire evaluated by a panel of experts and obtaining permission from the Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy, which helps to affirm its suitability for measuring the behavior, attitudes, and opinions of the participants .

The population consists of 35 employees of Zenith Technology Incorporation located in Laguna Technopark. This limited and specific sample may affect the generalizability of the findings, as results are specific to the organizational context and might not apply broadly to other settings .

The study employs three statistical methods: (1) Percentage is used to describe the demographic profile of respondents, (2) Weighted mean is used to evaluate levels of resourcefulness and creative thinking, and (3) Pearson r is used to determine the significance of the relationship between resourcefulness and creative thinking levels .

The 'Pearson r' statistic is used to determine the correlation coefficient between the levels of resourcefulness and creative thinking among the respondents. It provides insights into whether there is a statistically significant relationship, informing whether these traits tend to increase together .

The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design which is appropriate because it allows researchers to describe the characteristics of the variables (resourcefulness and creative thinking) and to examine the relationship between these two variables without manipulating them .

The evaluation uses numerical ranges aligned with assessment points, allowing for categorizing responses into levels such as Very High, High, Low, and Very Low. This approach simplifies assessment and enables clear interpretation of employee capabilities in these areas .

The data gathering procedure involves preparing a letter of approval, personally distributing the questionnaires, obtaining participant consent, allowing time for responses, and collecting the completed surveys. Personal distribution is important because it facilitates consent collection and ensures participants understand the context of the survey .

Challenges can include ensuring that questions are clear and unbiased, comprehensively covering the constructs of resourcefulness and creative thinking, and accurately interpreting responses. Ensuring the questions are validated by experts helps mitigate these risks .

Using both primary and secondary data allows researchers to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the research problem. Primary data provides specific insights from individual respondents, while secondary data offers broader context and supports findings with published literature and existing studies .
