Introduction
The GS High-Security Design Software Package is a modular system
of graphic applications. The elements of this system can be used in
several combinations, providing a flexible solution for the needs of
any security pre-press design system.

• GS Layout Plus - Total graphic security application, also can be

used for hosting the other software options listed below. They
can be used as plug-ins in GS Layout Plus, and also as standalone
applications.

• GS Art Screen – Versatile high-resolution security screening ap-

plication.

• GS Vector Premium – High-precision unique vector element

generation software. With additional and optional databases:
graphic vector element collections.

• GS Rainbow – Special security colorization module for rainbow-

and Orloff-colorization.

• GS Latent & View3D – Latent image generator with 3D on-

screen modeling possibilities.

• GS XeroShield – Generating special anti-photocopy patterns.

• GS Plate Statistics – Measuring tool for ‘visual density ’ (ink

coverage ratio) of individual virtual printing plates.

Particularly high precision data processing

• Internal data processing is much higher than usual.
• 0.001 mm intervals are easily defined.
• Linewidth can be as fine as 0.0001 mm (equals 0.1 µm).

 Finalizing design artwork, coloriz ation , printing
• GS design system is able to make a total composition, to arrange the
elements of the design artwork onto layers, to name elements, to
make grouping and masking, and to finalize the digital montage.
• Outputs in standard PostScript Level 2 and 3, and PDF v1.4.
• Handling several color information including BW, Grayscale, RGB,
CMYK, LAB and 1 to 12 color N-Separated.
• Uncoated and Coated Pantone colors are included.
• It is possible to send the digital information of the design to both
PostScript and non-PostScript printers (ink-jet or laser printer) to
get fast results on paper.

P rotection against unauthorised data access

• Multi-level data protection is provided, including the operating
system password, a hardware-dependent software license and a
hardware key.

O nline help & tutorial

• Software Manual is available on the screen.
• Tutorial example files are included on the hard disk.

64-bit version
• Besides 32-bit version all GS software products has a 64-bit
version that is ready to run in the latest operating system.
• The 64-bit versions process bigger amount of data (without memory
limitiation) and work faster, compared to 32-bit versions.

GS Layout Plus
Introduction
Total top graphic security application

GS Layout Plus is Jura’s flagship total pre-press design software

to create and compose elements and finalize up-to-date graphic
artworks of all kinds of security documents at the highest level.
It also serves as a host application for optional software plug-ins
developed focusing on the most common requirements of high-
security printing. It processes very effectively the main categories
of computer graphics – bitmap images and vector objects – and
provides standard output: PostScript, 1-bit TIFF and PDF.

Features
In addition to the most important general features detailed on page
6–8, GS Layout Plus contains numerous tools with the following
functionality:

• Drawing and typing – Making sketches, creating draft designs

on screen similarly to drawing on paper, and drawing elements.
Using freehand tools or generating with the machine. Direct text
entering.

• Backgrounds – Covering surfaces, filling areas. Rapid, user

adjustable production of security patterns, linescreens, reliefs, etc.

• Security screening – Vector-based and pixel-based protection

methods replacing the commercial dot screening of any original
graphic image (portraits, pictures, logos, etc.).

• Selection – Separating portions of the artwork, by free hand or

automated processes, to be edited or replaced, while protecting
the other parts against any alterations.

• Transformation – Changing position, size, shape and

orientation. Image transformations. Transmutations and detailed
image editing.

• Distortion – Line width modulations, 2D & 3D transformations.

 • Colorization - Colorizing objects. Distributing elements on virtual printing
plates. Emulating special security colorization. Color calibration possiblities.

• Composition - Organizing the graphic elements to compose the final design

• Production - Outputting the design work to further processes. Saving,

Introduction
V ersatile security screening

GS Art Screen is a standalone application and also an optional plug-

in module for GS Layout Plus, providing a very flexible security
image reproduction technique including more methods: Free Screen,
G-Screen and U-Screen.

Features
In addition to most of the general features detailed on page 6–8,
GS Art Screen contains the following unique functions:

• Free Screen – replaces the commercial dot screening

of any original graphic image (portraits,
pictures, logos, etc.) using any freely
definable pattern or image as a base.

• G-Screen – is a unique
stochastic style screening,
based on randomly repeated
user definable elements. Due
to random screening, the
result is non-repeatable.

• U-Screen – is an
alternative way of
screening with great
flexibility, based on
changing the shapes
of only few input
elements.

• Non-repeated patterns – better than using repetitive ‘brick’

patterns.

Premium
Introduction
High-precision vector element generation

GS Vector Premium is a standalone application and also an optional

plug-in module for GS Layout Plus for generating high-precision vector
graphic security elements in a unique way: using special philosophy
to build up flexible combinations (Models) based on linked graphic
tools and their joined mechanical functions with endless variations,
executed in real-time operation.

Features
In addition to most of the general features detailed on page 6–8, GS
Vector Premium contains the following unique functions:

• Traditional elements – perfectly creates all kind of traditional

security graphic curves and patterns, such as Guilloche rosettes,
linemotifs, reliefs (medalions), background motifs, etc.

• Modern design – allows to create special modern patterns that

cannot be produced with traditional drawing devices.

• Future plans – the Jura developed unique User Programmable

Graphical Interface helps to develop completely new infinite
combinations resulting wonderful never-seen security graphic
elements.

• Databases – Two graphic element databases are provided for

GS Vector Premium, including Guilloche rosettes, linemotifs, line-
width modulation patterns, reliefs, special backgrounds and
many others. GS Vector Collection is freely included, GS Vector
Collection Plus is an optional database. The elements are ready to
use, or their pre-programmed structures can be freely edited in
details, as needed. The modified combinations can be individually
saved, resulting practically unlimited number of new security
design elements, a custom database.

• Ultra-high precision – the smallest details of vector-based

elements can be freely and accurately controlled.

• Line-width modulation – LWM is fully integrated in GS Vector

Premium, variable line thickness can be applied on all vector
elements. The minimum and maximum line widths can be specified
and the transition between them can be continuous or variable,
representing any graphic image, such as example portraits, logos,
hand-drawn illustrations, etc.

• Easy-to-use – the unique User Programmable Graphical Interface

makes the software understandable and usable immediately
without difficulties caused by using specific language or
mathematic formulas.

• Openness – the capabilities are far beyond creating and improving

all traditional style and usual elements: on master user level it is
possible to invent and build ‘non-existing drawing machines’ on
the screen.

 GS Rainbow
Introduction
S ecurity colorization

GS Rainbow is a standalone application and also an optional plug-in

module for GS Layout Plus for security colorization preview, imitat-
ing the final look of the artwork to be printed including special ef-
fects, such as Rainbow coloring and Orloff-masking.

Features
In addition to most of the general features detailed on page 6–8,
GS Rainbow contains the following unique functions:

• Rainbow Window – applying security colorization settings

with the on-screen imitation of inks on the different virtual
printing plates, defining color segments and stripes, changing
their direction, position and symmetry, applying Pantone ® or user
definable unique colors.

• Print Preview – proofing files, sending the design in CMYK

color pixel format to a PostScript-compatible proofer to create a
high-quality final impression of the whole colored artwork.

Main advantages
GS Rainbow provides the following special benefits:

• Interactive coloring – interactive color selection and positioning

help to create different color versions of the same design artwork
in almost no time.

• Two directions – horizontal and vertical direction can be defined

for Rainbow stripes.

• Realistic overprint simulation – overprint is calculated

using white and black ink spectra or based on Lab values and
transparency.

 • Pushing the borders – maximum 12 plates and 4 Orloff-masks
can be emulated, with 7 colors on each plate, giving total freedom
for designers to see what they imagined.

• Non-printing elements – such design elements (paper,

holograms, etc.) are simulated with Lab images taking the printing
order into consideration.

• Outputting results – the resulted image is exportable into Lab

colorized TIFF at any resolution.

 GS Latent
& View3D
Introduction
Latent image generation and 3 D on -screen modeling

GS Latent & View3D is a standalone application and also an optional

plug-in module for GS Layout Plus, for latent image design genera-
tion and on-screen modeling in three dimension. The latent image
consist of two linescreens perpendicularly masked into each other,
linewidth modulated by a pattern, and printed with intaglio printing.
There are two different software functions for generating latent im-
ages: Latent Creator and Latent Image.

Features
In addition to most of the general features detailed on page 6–8, GS
Latent & View3D contains the following unique functions:

• Latent Creator – The method for creating vector-based latent

image designs using spline utilized visible input information, in
editable vector output format.

• Latent Image – Pixel-based latent image design generation us-

ing grayscale visible input information, in freely definable output
resolution.

• View3D – Creating 3D view of selected latent images on the

screen using selectable methods and many modeling options.

• Faithful emulation – dragging, rotating and laying down an

emulated ‘paper’ with the ‘intaglio printed image’ on it.

• Various previews – colors are freely definable, infinite zoom

is available.

• On-screen verification – it is possible to visualize and check

the latent image effect on display, reducing time and costs in the
long and expensive pre-press process of intaglio plate making.

 GS XeroShield
Introduction
Generating special anti -photocopy patterns

GS XeroShield is a standalone application and also an optional plug-

in module for GS Layout Plus, for creating anti-photocopy patterns.
Using optional methods the application hides an invisible information
into a homogeneous area by creating patterns developed especially
for this purpose.

Features
In addition to most of the general features detailed on page 6–8,
GS XeroShield contains the following unique functions:

• XeroBar – Generates a vector-based result with masking and

combining two special linescreens.

• XeroLift – Generates a vector-based result specially altering

lines in a linescreen.

• XeroGuard – Generates high resolution pixel-based results using

a unique patent-pending pattern.

Main advantages
GS XeroShield provides the following special benefits:

• Hidden patterns – looking at the resulted elements with naked

eyes only a smooth area can be seen with uniform ‘density ’ (ink
coverage) on the original document.

• Altering copies – on the copy of the original document – made

by a targeted photocopy machine that is sensitive to the related
pattern – the previously hidden information appears (for example
the word „COPY“ or similar) instead of the smooth area. It makes
easy to recognize that this is a counterfeited document.

• Stronger protecion – applying such patterns will help to

increase the protecion level of the security documents.

 GS Plate
Statistics
Introduction
M easuring ‘visual density ’ of individual plates

GS Plate Statistic is a standalone application and also an optional

plug-in module for GS Layout Plus, for measuring the percentage of
ink-covered areas of individual virtual printing plates.

When designing plastic cards it’s impossible to get around the prob-
lem of lamination – the ‘visual density ’ (ink coverage ratio) of design
artwork must stay under a strict limit. This tool helps to measure the
coverage of virtual printing plates, so the printability of the sophis-
ticated design artworks can be checked and ensured – still on the
screen. The built-in calculation for ink statistics provides detailed
information about the amount of rainbow color components – differ-
ent inks on the same printing plate. The final ink consumption of the
printing process can also be optimized this way.

Features
In addition to most of the general features detailed on page 6–8, GS
Plate Statistics contains the following unique functions:

• Plate Statistics Tool – Measures the ‘density ’ (ink coverage

ratio) of design artwork on screen and calculates ink demand for
individual printing plates.

• Ink Statistics function – If assigning more inks on the same

printing plate (for rainbow coloring), this feature can calculate
the amount of those inks independently.

GS Plate Statistics provides the following special benefits:

• Measuring ‘density ’ – helps creating multi-layered designs with

limited overall ink coverage ratio (e.g. laminated plastic cards).

• Ink demand calculation – calculates relative ink demand on

the same printing plate, which cannot be estimated visually when
using rainbow colorization. Helps to estimate the final ink con-
sumption of the printing.
