Cox Connects Education Scholarships
Application Requirements
A focus of the Cox Connects Foundation is to provide an opportunity for students in Cox
Oklahoma service areas to attend a college or university and help retain talented people in our
state. To help achieve this goal, the Cox Connects Foundation provides one-year scholarships of
$2,500 each to support undergraduate students and adult parents re-entering the classroom in
their educational endeavors.
Eligible students may attend any college, university or career tech program in Oklahoma to
receive a $2,500 scholarship. The Cox Connects Foundation has partnered with several local
schools to provide a matching scholarship or tuition waiver, up to $2,500, for scholarship
recipients.
The following partner schools offer matching scholarships or tuition waivers:

Langston University-Tulsa Francis Tuttle Technology Center
Northeastern State University Oklahoma Christian University
Oklahoma State University-Tulsa Oklahoma City Community College
Rogers State University Oklahoma State University–OKC

Tulsa Technology Center University of Central Oklahoma
All Cox Connects Education Scholarships are specific to students whose permanent home mailing
address is in a Cox Communications service area. Tulsa-area communities include: Tulsa, Bixby,
Broken Arrow, Catoosa, Claremore, Coweta, Glenpool, Jenks, Keifer, Owasso, Sand Springs and
Sapulpa. Oklahoma City-area communities include: Bethany, Choctaw, Del City, Edmond, El Reno,
Forest Park, Guthrie, Harrah, Lake Aluma, Midwest City, Moore, Mustang, Nichols Hills, Nicoma
Park, Norman, Oklahoma City, Spencer, The Village, Tinker AFB, Valley Brook, Warr Acres and
Yukon.
One-year scholarships of $2,500 are available to students who meet one of these criteria:
A. Adult Parent
Be an adult parent (25 and over) with a high school diploma or G.E.D. and live in the Cox
Communications service area
Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative, un-weighted grade point average on a 4.0 scale if
currently enrolled in school or proof of enrollment if not currently attending school.
Plan to attend or currently attend a two-year college, four-year university or career tech
school in Oklahoma
Have a demonstrated financial need
Have a strong commitment to civic participation, as demonstrated by your involvement in
school, work and/or community activities
Be enrolled as an undergraduate student beginning in Fall 2011 (6 credit hour min.)
B. Undergraduate Student
Be a Spring 2011 high school graduate or a current undergraduate student and live in the
Cox Communications service area
Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative, un-weighted grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Plan to attend or currently attend a two-year college, four-year university or career tech
school in Oklahoma
Have a demonstrated financial need
Have a strong commitment to civic participation, as demonstrated by your involvement in
school, work and/or community activities
Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student beginning in Fall 2011 (12 credit hour min.)
How to Apply
Checklist for Cox Connects Education Scholarships
□ Application: Fill out the attached application completely. Provide thorough financial aid
and financial information.
□ Tax Information: Tax information for the year 2010 must be used to answer the financial
information sections. A copy of your 2010 tax returns may be requested by the Cox
Connects Foundation to verify the information submitted in this application.
□ Activities, Community Service and Work Experience: Type a resume that lists your
extra-curricular activities by the categories listed on the application. For each category,
include the organization, activity/position held and start/end dates.
□ Personal Statement: Type a two-page, double-spaced personal statement addressing the
three questions on the application. Be sure your statement focuses on your personal
commitment to achievement despite any adversity or obstacles you may have faced in
your life. Special consideration will be given to students who have excelled despite their
obstacles and adversities.
□ Letters of Recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation. Letters should be
written by two individuals, who know you well and are not related to you. Teachers, work
place supervisors, coaches and volunteer site managers are all good people to write your
letters of recommendation.
□ Transcript or Proof of Enrollment: Submit an official copy of current school
transcript(s). Applicants who are not currently attending school must provide proof of
enrollment for Fall 2011.
Note: Applications that do not include all of the above information will be disqualified. Former Cox
Connects Foundation Education Scholarship recipients are ineligible to re-apply.

Letters of Recommendation
Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. Letters should be written by two
individuals, who know you well and are not related to you. Teachers, work place supervisors,
coaches and volunteer site managers are all good people to write your letters of recommendation.
Note: The letters must be dated within the current academic year.
