I.

INTRODUCTION

We spend, on average, approximately a third of our life asleep. Along with

eating, drinking and breathing, sleeping is one of the pillars for maintaining good

mental and physical health. Sleep and mental health are closely connected. Sleep

deprivation affects your psychological state and mental health. We all know about the

myth of telling people to get out of bed and pull themselves together, but lethargy,

tiredness, and disturbed sleep can be part of having a mental health problem or a side

effect of taking medication. Addressing sleep and sleep disorders as part of mental

health treatment is very important, and can be overlooked.

There is clear evidence that sleep deprivation has a negative effect on emotion

and performance. The results of one study (Yoo, Gujjar et al (2007). A deficit in the

ability to form new human memories without sleep. Nature Neuroscience, 10(3), 385-

392) indicate that a night of restful sleep may ‘reset’ brain reactivity in order to prepare

for emotional challenges the next day.

Ongoing poor sleep can be a huge risk factor for the development of major

depressive disorder. The risk of feeling depressed or anxious  increases with the severity

of insomnia, and so it is important to recognise and sort out sleep problems as soon as

they are identified.

With that, this proposed project has aims to help people with their mental health

problems. In today’s society, many people are using social media application to gather

information or for entertainment. Therefore, it is a good tactic to create a channel on

YouTube that provides content about mental health issues.

II. MISSION AND VISION

Mission

wellness by providing mental health advises and tips through the use of

YouTube channel.

Vision

To promote prevention, recovery and wellness in regards to mental

health through an all- inclusive mental health approaches.

III. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

As the psychological factor affects the society, it will continue to interfere with

the person in various situations. The Philippines has the highest number of depressed

people in Southeast Asia. The National Statistics Office (NSO) reports that mental

illness is the third most common form of disability in the country, after visual and

hearing disabilities. It is reported by the Global Burden of Disease Study in 2015 that

3.3 million Filipinos suffer from depressive disorders, with suicide rates in 2.5 males

and 1.7 females per 100,000 of the Filipino population according to the National Centre

for Mental Health.

A person enduring the sleepless nights and many more symptoms of mental

health dilemma shows how harsh life can be.

Therefore, this project was intended for the whole society to offer a solution

through the YouTube Channel called “Mend the Mind”.
