PARTICIPATIVE MANAGEMENT (Script)
SCENARIO:
Cindy is one of the resident dr. at MGV hospital. She is handling 6 pt. at OB Gyne ward. One of
her pt. is experiencing pre eclampsia, and that is very dangerous since the pt. is only 17, and on
her 22 weeks of pregnancy. She decided to gather all the staff and member of the health care
team to have a meeting. She need to consult them about the plan that she is going to do, so
that they can provide the necessary care needed by the pt.
Cindy (Dr.): I called this meeting because one of our pt. is experiencing pre eclampsia. She is
only on her 22 weeks of pregnancy, that is too early for her to give delivery, that is not the best
thing for the baby. One more thing, she is only 17 and that is also a problem. I am planning to
admit her here so that we can carefully monitor her and her baby. May I know what are your
suggestions, so that we can assure their safety and we can make the best alternative way to
replace early delivery.
Paula (Nurse): I agree with that dra., that is very dangerous for both of them. And since I am
one of the OB Gyne nurse in duty for today, I will be the one who monitor her V/S esp. her BP
and HR from time to time. Because accurate BP reading is very important.
Cindy (Dr.): That's good. How about the others? What do you think? Any suggestions or ideas
on how we are going to take care of our pt.?
Norribel (Dietrician): I also agree with that dra., I know that pre eclampsia often causes
problems. One of that is in circulation, because it can reduce the amount of nutrients that the
baby is getting. It is very important for the pt. to eat a nutrient-rich food. So, I am going to give
her healthy foods like fish, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy products po. I know that it
could be a big help for her condition po.
Mica (Nurse 2): Umm, although the pt. is pregnant, medication such as low dose of aspirin may
help to prevent it dra.
Wilma (Nurse 3): That is right po, and dra. since the pt. is very young I will take the
responsibility of giving her an advice and mental support, and also to educate her on how to
use relaxation technique such as breathing exercises. It could help her lessen her anxiety.
Patrick (Medical technologist): I will collect all the specimen that will be needed for her lab
tests, like blood, for liver and kidney function tests, and also to measure her platelet. Then
urine for the measurement of the amount of protein in her urine. That is very important in her
condition dra.
Anthea (Ultrasound technician): Ultrasound is also necessary in her condition dra., to carefully
monitor the baby’s health and development, and also to estimate fetal weight and the amount
of amniotic fluid in the uterus.
Tricia (Radiologist): As a radiologist, all I can contribute to her treatment is to give the accurate
reading of her ultrasound result.
Cindy (Dr.): That is very good. Now that I heard all your ideas on how are we going to keep the
baby and the pt. safe, I can now finally decide and make the plan of care that is going to be
implemented to that pt. I know that with all your help and support we can provide the quality
care that is needed by our pt. Thank you everyone, you can now all go back to your area. Have a
nice day.
EVERYONE: Thank you dra. Anytime.
END!
Narrator (Jam): Participative management requires the cooperation or the involvement of the
employees. The scenario shows the types as well as the strategies that needs to implement in
participative management. In consultation style the doctor consult her co-worker on how they
will assure the patient safety, because the patient experiencing pre-eclampsia and at risk due to
early pregnancy. Joint decision making also shows through collaboration, suggestions, and
exchanging of ideas. Strategies to implement participative management including considering
multiple options (the doctor do not decide on her own, instead she solicits her co-workers
feedback), providing information (informing co-worker regarding patients condition), also
encourage creative solution( asking the employees about their insights regarding patients
condition)
Than you……
