INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

According to Emeka and Nyeche (2016) the internet today is a

worldwide entity whose nature cannot be easily or simply defined. To many, the

internet is a large computer network linking together millions of smaller

computers at numerous sites in various countries belonging to thousands of

business, government, research, educational and other organisations. To the

internet users, the internet is a global community-one with a very active life. In

today world, theInternet plays a vital role in the teaching, research and learning

process in academic institutions. Thus, the advent of the Internet has heralded

the emergence of a new form of knowledge production and distribution – the soft

form.

This new form of information resources have as their greatest

advantage, a virtually unlimited wealth of information resources which is widely

readily available and accessible to hundreds of millions of people simultaneously

in many parts of the world (Kumar & Kaur 2006). In addition, Amaoge and

Igwebuike (2016) believe that the internet has increasingly become an invariable

asset in education in terms of learning, teaching and research. The use of

internet in the tertiaryinstitutions is an exciting prospect especially when the

rugged terrain is the significant impediment to obtain information for the vast

majority of people.

The increasing of internet usage reflects to new information

technology as the world of communication technology network that can use to

improve learning. The internet is also very important for people every life

[Link] makes opportunities and challenges for learners in

higher education to emphasis on information and communication technologies

(ICTs) such as internet usages (Macharia & Nyakwende, 2011). The internet is

useful for searching information easily and helps students to do their homework

with just only search on search engine that they want to know. It also let them to

interact with each other for exchanging their idea and knowledge from a different

location in a same time ([Link]). The interaction between students

offers them to gain different perspectives on a problem discussion by sharing

one’s own learning activities with other learners into problem solving strategies.

So, internet based learning increasestudents’ satisfaction with learning as a very

important mediating role (Liao & Hsieh, 2011).

The internet is also useful community of resources to offer new

possibilities for schools and the web [Link] were active in

communication and content creation as Internet/Web technology (Hill et al.,

2004; Bekele & Menchaca, 2008). The investigation of the relationship between

internet usage and learning is useful to ensure that the learning improvement

needs to emphasize on internet usage, and motivate students to use internet in

their learning Internet usage in education can help with individual learning and

teaching such as: quickness of delivery, development of communication and

writing skills and increase of motivation for learning and self-reliance.

The internet is also necessary to use a specialized information

system, along with the Universal International Research System. In fact, the

World Wide Web (WWW) is necessary for education and search information

forstudents’ learning improvement.

Therefore, the investigation on internet usage for improvement of

learning is necessary to do the comparison between developed countries and

developing countries in the implementation of internet usage in learning. This can

help us identify distinctive improvement of learning between developed and

developing countries. The relationship of internet usage and learning will provide

an avenue to enhance learning environment and technology for problem solving

in economics, society and politics. Sylvia (2000) stated that developed countries

emphasize on internet usage to develop education as they are developing

extensive programs of internet integration in education

Access to the Internet is fundamental to achieving this vision for

the future. It can improve the quality of education in many ways. It opens

doorways to a wealth of information, knowledge and educational resources,

increasing opportunities for learning in and beyond the classroom. Teachers use

online materials to prepare lessons, and students to extend their range of

learning. Interactive teaching methods, supported by the Internet, enable

teachers to give more attention to individual students’ needs and support shared

learning. This can help to rectify inequalities in education experienced by girls

and women. Access to the Internet helps educational administrators to reduce

the costs and improve the quality of schools and colleges.

There are many benefits of the internet in the field of education. Some of these

are:

1. Cost Effective and Affordable Education

One of the largest barriers to education is high cost. The Internet improves the

quality of education, which is one of the pillars of sustainable development of a

nation. It provides education through Videos (like youtube tutorial videos) and

web tutorials which is affordable to everyone and cost-effective.

2. Student – Teacher and Peer Interaction

The internet has allowed students to be in constant touch with their teachers or

with other fellow classmates with the help of social media, messaging apps and

chat forums. Parents can interact as well as communicate with teachers and

school authorities about their kid’s performance in the school. Interaction with the

like minded people on forums can help students to explore new ideas and enrich

their knowledge.

3. Effective Teaching and Learning Tool

The Internet has become a major tool for effective teaching as well as a learning

tool. Teachers can use it as a teaching tool by posting their teaching materials

(notes and videos) on school website or forum . The learning process becomes

interesting and diverse with the use of tutorial videos and notes. Teachers can

teach with the use of animation, powerpoint slides, and images to capture the

students’ attention.

4. Easy Access to Quality Education

Students can easily access quality education materials like tutorial videos on

youtube for free or pay fees online for more quality study materials. Teachers can

also make use of the internet by proving the students with extra study material

and resources such as interactive lessons, educational quiz as well as tutorials.

Teachers can record their lectures and provide it to the students for revisions

which is better than reading from notes.

5. Interaction with Digital Media

Regular use of digital media is one of the most basic parts of our lives. Digital

bulletin boards save paper, allow displaying of videos and audios to attract the

attention of students. Nowadays, there are many paid sites which provide

education resources which are rich in quality and easily understandable to

masses.

6. Keeping you updated with Latest Information

Information is the biggest advantage which the internet is offering. There is a

huge amount of information available for every subject. It keeps us up to date

with the latest information regarding the subjects in which we are interested.

7. Learning with Multimedia

It helps the students with the learning process as it helps to simplify the

knowledge. Also, it helps to visualize what is being taught by the teachers in

school. If you want to prepare for final exams, you can access Video Tutorials

and other resources online through the Internet.

The Internet is a boon to the people, which is used all over the world. Hence, it

should be used for good purpose. It has had a great impact on imparting

education to the children. If this is used in appropriate ways that meet children’s

development level, they can benefit and learn from the Internet.

Statement of the Problem

This study was conducted to answer the following questions.

1. What should be done to avoid the bad effects of using the internet?

2. How the use of internet contributes to modular distance learning

3. What is the benefit of using internet in the field of education?

4. What are the effects of internet usage in modular distance learning?

Significance of the Study

The students. They may gain knowledge on using the internet

correctly and they will learn how it can help them.

The Teachers. They may gain knowledge about how the internet

helps students and they can also take an action in case that the use of internet

can harm students.

The Parents. They can limit and inform their children on the proper

The Future Researchers. This study may serve as reference

material for future research endeavors.

Scope and Delimitation

The study is conducted to identify if the Use of Internet in Modular

Distance Learning is a hindrance or not. The respondent of this study are the few

student who used internet in their Modular Distance Learning.

Definition of Terms

To make it easier for the readers to understand this research, here

are the words or terms defined based on the methodology used by the

researchers in this seasonal paper.

networks that use internet protocol suite (TCP/AP) to communicate between

networks and devices.

Modular Distance Learning. Individualized instruction that allows

leraners to use self- learning modules (SLMS) in print or digital format/electronic

copy, which is applicable to the learners.

World wide web (WWW). Commonly known as the Web, is an

information system where documents and other web resources are identified by

Uniform Resource Locators (URLs, such as [Link] which may be

interlinked by hyperlinks, and are accessible over the Internet.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter will present the method, procedures and tools that

the researchers will use in evaluating and analyzing the data that will be

gathered.

Research Design

The design selected for this research was qualitative in nature

using interview, observations, and documents. Qualitative research provides an

understanding of situation or phenemenon that tells the story cause and effect.

Participants of the Study

The participants of this study were the students who are using

internet in Modular Distance Learning.

Locale of the Study

This study was conducted at Maximo T. Hernandez Memorial

Integrated High School, this place was selected for knowing the effects of the

siad study, among students of the said school from Senior High School.

Sampling Technique

Convenience sampling is a type of sampling where the first

available primary data source will be used for the research without additional

requirements. In other words, this sampling method involves getting participants

wherever you can find them and typically wherever is convenient.

Data gathering method

In order to gather relevant information, the researcher will use

interview question method. It is a method or technique that are usually open-

ended questions so that in-depth information will be collected.

Data gathering procedure

The researcher will first ask for the proper consent from

authorities to conduct this interview. The interview question was distributed to the

respondents after securing the permit. Copies of the approved interview question

order to gather the relevant data.

The researcher will provide data through the interview

question. The the interview will be given or send them via messenger through

sending the copies of question to obtain the necessary information that is

needed. The answers of the respondents will be the gathered data and will be

analyzed in order to come up with the findings, conclusions and

recommendations.

Ethical Consideration

The researcher chose the student who were using internet in

Modular distance learning as their respondent. After getting the approved

interview question, the researcher will begin to conduct the interview to the

students but it is for only who are willing to responds in the questions. The

researcher will ensure the confidentiality of there responses.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Based on the result of the interview, Internet is a communication

network with the help of branch of physics and electrical engineering which is the

electronic. Using it as a tool for communication, getting information, transaction

and even entertainment purposes. We asked the respondents about How

Internet helps them in answering their modules, most of them says that It can

support or improve the wealth of their knowledge and information in every

learning system, it also enhance the quality of education using it as a material for

better time management.

We also made them choose between Distance learning or face to

face, they all preferred of having face to face class or learning system because it

allows them to focus, correct mistakes and for effective way to learn knowledge

and skills by the help of teaching in person with other students, that was based

from the interview. Most of the respondent says that they're still using the internet

in face to face classes basically as support or emphasizing to their answers.

Lastly, we asked them what is the advantages of using internet in Modular

Distance Learning, the respondents says that Internet can be used as

information and data gathering to support answers, basically it will help the

quality of modular learning with a capacity to give or offer the students with

choice, flexibility and time management. I know this learning system is not the

same as live interaction learning or the social learning that someone can support

the situation but with the help of internet you can gather support without the help

of live interaction learning.

CHAPTER IV

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, INSIGHTS GAINED AND

RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary of Findings

This study aims to Identify if The Use of Internet in Modular

Distance Learning is a hindrance or not. As the result, the researchers found out

that Internet plays a big role to the learners both face to face learning and

Distance learning.

The second objective of this study is to know how the use of

internet contributed to the students in Modular Distance Learning, the

researchers found out that through the use of internet the students can easily

cope up with their lessons.

Then the researchers also aims to determine what is the benefit

od using internet in the field of education. The researchers found out that through

the use of internet, education can be done. Through using the online platforms

especially now that the new normal education is done through online classes,

teachers can use the internet to provide the better way of educating the learners.

Lastly, the researcher aims to know what are the effects of

using internet to the students in Modular Distance Learning, they found out that

the internet really helps the students in terms of using it in a good way, they also

found out that using the internet in a bad way can make the students suffer. The

researcher also found out what are the ways to avoid students suffer just

because of the wrong usage of internet.

The following objectives were achieved by data gathering

through the use of interview, participants were chosen by means of convenience

sampling.

Insights Gained

The researcher realized that Internet plays a big role in the life

of evey individual especially in this time of pandemic. Students really need

internet to cope up with their challenges that they're facing with their modules,

they need internet to get some ideas regarding to their lesson, they can reach

their subject tracher if they want to ask a questions. Overall, the researchers also

gained a lot of knowledge to their research.

Recommendations

1. For the researcher, the research paper should be kept since there is a

possible that they can use it for there future learning. It can also be a

guide or tools to become a successful someday.

2. To the Future researcher, this study can be use to be a guide or a

references for their research study that are also related to our

research.

3. For the teacher/adviser, they should be the one who are willing to

guide and help the researcher for their study. They will encourage and

motivate to build a better research paper in future.

4. For the Parents, they should be the one who are willing to support their

children in conducting this research
