1. How globalized are you?
Answer: I often watch foreign movies, listen to foreign music and own branded things
This things from other countries already became part of my everyday routine. Im as
globalized as other normal teenager in my generation, where everything we do and use has an
influence from neighbouring countries. From the things we use, music we listen, clothes we
wear and even the slang we practice.
2. Make an inventory of everything that you possessed that are of foreign brands.
Example : watch- Fossil made in USA
a. Pair of shoes ( from foreign brands like adidas, sketchers, michael kors, reebok and
fila )
b. Bags ( from foreign brands like michael kors, gap and furla
c. Clothes ( from foreign brands like h&m, guess and ralph lauren )
d. Cosmetics ( from foreign brands like nivea, sephora and victoria’s secret )
3. What do you know about globalization?
Globalization enabled global integration, which had a significant influence on
economic, social, and cultural aspects. These elements enabled people of various nationalities,
personal preferences, and beliefs to agree on common terms. Its effect may be observed on
social media platforms and even in everyday situations.
Activity # 1 The World Made Closer
LET’S EXPLORE!
In this activity, you are to see the actual application of globalization to the different aspects of
daily life such as politics, music, sports, movies, celebrity and disaster.
1. Answer the following questions:
a. Write down at least five most recent songs you have listened. Where did they
originate? Identify the nationality of the writer or the artist for each music
Name of Song/ Music Artist Nationality of the Artist
1. Happier Olivia Rodrigo American
2. Cold As You Taylor Swift American
3. Love Me Like That Sam Kim American
4. IDK You Yet Alexander 23 American
5. i don’t miss u Bumzu Korean
b. What gadgets or devices do you usually use to listen to music? Where were
these gadgets made? Where is the company based?
Answer: I frequently listen to music on my phone because it is portable. I
listen to music on my own laptop at times, especially when working on school
assignments and homework. Music relaxes me so much that it has become my mood
setter. The devices I utilized as a medium are valuable possessions that should be
treasured. My phone is manufactured by OPPO Electronics Corp., a Chinese
electronics firm located in Guangdong. The laptop I possessed was made by Lenovo
Group Limited, also known as Lenovo, a Chinese multinational technology business.
It was founded in Hong Kong and is headquartered in Beijing, China.
c. How did you access these music? Did you purchase these online? Or listen to
them through Youtube, Spotify or other music channels?
Music may be easily obtained via music streaming sites such as Spotify,
Deezer, YouTube Music, and others. You may either pay for premium or listen for
free by viewing adverts. These apps were fantastic, however I like to listen to music
offline. Telegram is a software that allows you to download hundreds of songs via a
bot. The program has been a huge assistance to me since it allows me to readily
access my favorite tunes without having to worry about my internet connection or
listening to odd advertisements.
2. Using your own words, how do you define globalization?
Innovation brought globalization in this world. Cross-border trading became
widespread in the 1990s, but it cannot be compared to the scenario this year. Nations
become more interdependent as a result of globalization. Economic investment is
boldly increasing, and even cultural interchange has been implemented. For example,
in the beginning of the year 2000, telenovelas and dramatic films from other nations
were popular in the Philippines. After a decade, Asian-produced dramas became
everyone's favorite. Korean culture is overhyped, as seen by several social media
platforms. Teenagers are so obsessed with korean stars and actresses that they study
the language and even have plastic surgery in order to have korean looks. This simply
demonstrates how far globalization has progressed. Global influence is so ubiquitous
and all-encompassing that we seldom perceive its decline. Globalization has had a
negative impact on the economy, resulting in unequal economic growth, local
business obstruction, and job relocation. We may claim that globalization has varying
effects on growth depending on a country's economic capability and potential. As a
conclusion, globalization benefits everyone, yet it is not ideal because it may also be
viewed as a hindrance.
Activity # 2 : What Do Experts Think About Globalization

You may use local and international newspapers. Write a 100-word summary for each
opinion editorials. Identify whether they subscribe to a particular definition discussed or they
have new definition.

China has been merging globalization with mercantilism in order to establish economic
stability through foreign commerce. They addressed poverty-related issues through high
employment rates, analytical tactics for new company owners, and the establishment of local
and international alliances. This is where world system theory comes into play. China is seen
as a core nation because it provides high-profit consumer items to underdeveloped and
dependent countries (periphery) such as the Philippines in return for cheap labor and raw
resources from us. Meanwhile, semi-periphery nations are regarded as neutral in terms of
exchange and trades

The articles depicted the evolution of globalization through time and speculated on what the
globe might look like after (de)globalization “Grave repercussions will occur the moment we
proceed to (de) globalization, Marxuach said. Economic power has been decimated,
unemployment has risen anew, and poverty difficulties are likely to continue indefinitely.
When dealing with this type of argument, Marxism theory should be introduced. This manner,
we will be able to relate the changes that must be considered prior to (de)globalization and
how it will negatively transform society. The author carefully examined his stance in light of
Marxism ideology.

Another article, shown above, discusses China's contribution to globalization and
multilateralism. In pursuit of multilateralism, China will continue to actively participate in
international cooperation to combat COVID-19, implement a win-win opening-up policy,
promote sustainable development, advance science, technology, and innovation, and promote
a new style of international relations. This takes into account network society, which is
characterized as a "techno logistic" approach to globalization, as well as the "Age of
Information" or "informationalism." This kind of breakthrough was needed in order to address
global difficulties such as the pandemic. Strategic intelligence is primarily responsible for
China's rise to internationalism.
Activity # 3: Ang Mundo sa Mata ng OFW
Although globalization is an overwhelming concept, it is experienced by people in number
of ways in real terms. Though this activity, you will be able to gain a firsthand knowledge
of the experiences of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who obviously reached other
countries. Their stories could provide concrete understanding of how globalization affects
themselves, their families and the country.
1. Find a former or a current OFW to be interviewed. Your respondent’s name should not be
revealed to protect the person’s identity and ensure anonymity.
2. Use the following guide questions (you may have additional questions)
[Link] long have you stayed abroad?
[Link] are the purpose of your stay there?
[Link] were your most unforgettable experience there? How would you describe them?
Good or bad?
[Link] will you compare Philippines to other countries?
[Link] you want to go back abroad or to other countries in the future? Why? Why not?
3. Based on the interview conducted, write a reflection paper about the response of OFW
you have interviewed. Discuss major points and relate his or her responses to the concept
you have learned about globalization. Reflection paper must be typewritten, hard or soft
copy ( soft copies can be submitted through email) font is Times New Roman, size 11,
double spaced and justified. Not less than 300 words.
Despite numerous risks, globalization has inspired many to consider working
overseas. The most prevalent response is a desire to reduce poverty on their own. But what
benefits apply to OFWs? Filipinos are more inclined to view having a family member
working overseas to be a blessing. Why? They believe they will make a lot of money, which
is usually not the case, but we have nothing to show to them because it is their choice. These
matters should only be discussed with your immediate family.
Living abroad, according to the individual I interviewed, is a privilege. I agree with
her point. Being sacrificial is a positive attribute, but there are occasions when you must
consider your personal satisfaction while making decisions. You deserve it after all of your
efforts and hard work. It is not a waste of money on something that makes you happy. Save
money to travel with your co-workers and visit destinations you've wanted to visit since you
were a youngster. Globalization seems to have an influence on you when you first considered
and dreamed of traveling other countries and seeing their cultures. It is a chance to make your
dreams come true. Because of the discussion, I imagined how dreamy it may have been to
stroll into a country that was far different from your own. She aims to assure that she does not
face the same consequences as she did when working overseas after she has lived the life she
desired. Living in the Philippines is difficult, especially if you are born into a less fortunate
household. Some even accept low labor costs, and despite having the possibility to be a well-
paid employee, you must carefully manage your financial budget and set aside time for
leisure. That approach taught me a lot. I aspire to be the same lady she is. This demonstrates
that you may think about your priorities while still prioritizing yourself.
They remarked that every action has a tremendous deal of responsibility, which is correct. It's
great to have your family as a source of inspiration for working overseas, but you must also
reflect on yourself. Find out what you really want, and as long as it doesn't harm anyone,
you'll know you're on the right track. Self-satisfaction will never leave you with regrets, but
seeking affirmation from others will.
Activity # 4: #Learning for this Chapter
A hashtag, introduced by the number sign, or hash symbol, #, is a type of metadata tag used
on social networks such as Twitter and other microblogging services. It lets users apply
dynamic, user-generated tagging that helps other users easily find messages with a specific
theme or content.
In this activity, summarize what you have learned in this chapter using hashtag. Be
creative as well as unique in doing the activity. Write your answer inside the box.
