Cell City Analogy Worksheet

The document provides a cell analogy worksheet where students are asked to compare different cell parts to parts of a real-life example, in this case the town of Barrington. The student begins filling out the table by comparing the nucleus to the town hall, showing it controls the activity of the cell, just as the town hall controls the town. Chloroplasts are compared to pedals on a bike, showing they create energy, just as the digestive system does. Mitochondria are likened to bike wheels, giving the cell something to move on, similar to how the circulatory system powers movement.

CELL ANALOGY WORKSHEET

Your real life example: Bigwheel (Town of Barrington, Barrington Middle School, City of Providence, etc)

Use the table below to organize the cell part and organ system so each line makes a logical and coherent
analogous connection to your real life example.

For instance, lets say that you chose to use the Town of Barrington as your real life example. You might decide
that the nucleus is analogous to the Town Hall as well as the human body’s nervous system. Complete each
line in the table showing the function of each analogous part.

You MUST complete all highlighted cell parts and organ systems listed below.

Cell Parts: nucleus, chloroplast, mitochondria, cell membrane, cell wall, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes,
golgi body, vacuole, lysosomes.

Organ System: circulatory, excretory, digestive, respiratory, muscular, skeletal, nervous
