MODSIM 3.6.22 Demo Installation Guide

The document provides instructions for installing and running a demo of the MODSIM 3.6.22 simulation software. It explains that the installation program will create a directory to hold demo jobs. It then outlines the 5 steps to open an existing demo job, run the simulation, and view results. General tips are given to view mass balance information on units and system data by using menu options in the software. It also notes that a MODSIM environment variable must be set for the software to run properly on a network under Windows NT or 2000.

MODSIM 3.6.

22 Demo

INSTALLATION

1 - Run [Link] in the CDROM and follow instructions to setup MODSIM.

2 - The instalation shoud create a directory <Jobs> in the instalation directory
in the previous step. Default is C:\Program Files\Modsim_3_6_22_Demo\ so you
should
have a C:\Program Files\Modsim_3_6_22_Demo\DemoJobs\ directory if the default
installation directory was used.

RUNNING A DemoJob

1 - Run Modsim from the Start -> Programs -> Modsim 3.6.22 Demo shortcut.
2 - Click on File then "Open an existing job" in the File menu.
3 - Load any job from the Jobs directory copied during the installation.
4 - Click on Run then "Run simulation" in the Run menu.
5 - After completion of calculation and output, click on View then Flowsheet.

GENERAL

The flyouts will give some mass balance information about and around the
units in the job. Click with the right mouse button on any unit
icon to see a more detailed output for that unit.
To view the system data (Particle types, sizes, etc. ) click on Edit then
"Edit System Data". Double click in a feed stream to see size distribution data.

To run on a network under WinNT/2000, users must set a MODSIM environment variable
containing the path information for the Modsim Working Directory. Users must have
authority to read and write in the indicated folder.

Common questions

Powered by AI

To install and run a demo job in MODSIM 3.6.22 Demo, follow these steps: First, run SETUP.EXE from the CDROM and follow the installation instructions. This should create a <Jobs> directory in the installation path, typically C:\Program Files\Modsim_3_6_22_Demo\, resulting in a C:\Program Files\Modsim_3_6_22_Demo\DemoJobs\ directory if the default path is used. To run a DemoJob, open Modsim from the Start menu shortcut, select 'Open an existing job' from the File menu, load a job from the Jobs directory, click Run and select 'Run simulation.' After the calculation is complete, view the flowsheet by clicking View and then Flowsheet .

To view size distribution data of feed streams in MODSIM, double-click on the feed stream of interest within the simulation. This feature is important because size distribution data helps in understanding the characteristics of the material being processed and can greatly influence process efficiency and the accurate modeling of physical systems .

MODSIM provides mass balance information through flyouts around the units in the job. This information is relevant because it allows users to assess the distribution and conservation of mass throughout the process, ensuring that the simulation aligns with physical principles and accurate process modeling .

In MODSIM, users can access detailed output for individual unit processes by right-clicking on any unit icon in the job. This will reveal more detailed information about that specific unit .

To run MODSIM on a network under WinNT/2000, users need to set a MODSIM environment variable that contains the path information for the Modsim Working Directory. Additionally, users must have the authority to read and write in the specified folder .

Users might leverage MODSIM's detailed mass balance flyouts, the right-click detailed output functionality on unit icons, and the ability to edit system data to perform more insightful simulation analyses. Together, these features allow for comprehensive analysis of process dynamics, enabling detailed investigations into unit operations, material characteristics, and overall system efficiency .

The typical default directory path created by MODSIM installation is C:\Program Files\Modsim_3_6_22_Demo\DemoJobs\. This path is significant because it holds the DemoJobs directory, which contains the jobs necessary to be loaded and run within the MODSIM platform .

If a user lacks authority to read and write in the MODSIM Working Directory on a network, they cannot modify jobs, save simulations, or appropriately configure settings, leading to workflow disruptions. To mitigate these issues, administrators should ensure users have appropriate permissions set, possibly creating user groups with the necessary access rights to facilitate seamless operations .

To view system data such as particle types and sizes in MODSIM, the user should click on Edit, then select 'Edit System Data'. This is valuable because understanding these characteristics is crucial for simulating processes accurately, as different particle types and sizes can affect processing behavior and results .

MODSIM's ability to run simulations from pre-existing jobs can significantly enhance a user's workflow by allowing them to quickly test modifications, compare different scenario outcomes, or debug with predefined conditions without recreating models from scratch. This feature optimizes time, increases productivity, and enables more thorough explorations of process variations .
