FREEDOM: THE NEW BATTLE
Our democracy has been challenged in the past years; it was not an easy undertaking to
whether or not accept as it is, otherwise fight from the bottom of our core- freedom. Rizal’s
death did not put in vain and so his fight for freedom. However, it doesn’t give us the full pill of
assurance to not feel the struggle and maintain the stable state of a such. As a palpable
revolutionist and nationalist, Jose Rizal defended this so-called freedom that we are relishing
right now. The true depiction of this is education, which Rizal believed it is a potent tool to
transcend and to make ourselves worthy of freedom. With the proliferation of political, economic
and sociocultural issues, it is indeed fair to say that our freedom is also threatened and that we
are still fighting to the fullest extent that we are capable. This may sound our grandma’s lecture
or cliché statement, however, I firmly believe that we should start it within ourselves; to start
being prudent, understanding, cautious, dignified, courageous and resilient every now and then.
This fight for freedom is not a one click away, but it needs to be taken in steps to achieved it
fully. Ergo, Rizal’s fight for freedom was not put in vain, however, we could not neglect the fact
that we are still continuously fighting and a long way to go perhaps. It is only with the right
one’s heart and mind that could think and do actions that would lift us from this struggle towards
freedom.
