Chapter III

Research Methodology

This chapter discusses the research design, research locale, respondents of the

study, research instruments, data gathering, procedures, and treatment of data.

Research Design

The study employed the descriptive design, wherein the survey method

utilized both the qualitative and quantitative approach. The researchers utilized this

method to gather data from the Junior high school students of Montessori De

Zamboanga about the effects of haircut policy on the academic performance of

students. The researchers also used the phenomenological approach for the study.

Since this study is focused on acquiring the thoughts, insights, and perceptions of

students about their haircut in their studies.

Research Locale

The study was conducted by researchers from their home due to the

pandemic going on and a lockdown was issued at the time. The researchers were

required to use Google Forms to distribute the research questions to the

respondents. The researchers excused the students for the survey. After a while, the

researchers collected the survey results online from the students.


Research Respondents

The respondents of the study were limited only to the male category of the

Junior High School Montessori students. There were a total of 23 survey

responses. 8 responses from grade 7, 7 responses from grade 8, 2 responses from

grade 9, and 6 responses from grade 10. Table 1 summarizes the respondents of the

study.

Research Instruments

The study utilized a yes-or-no survey checklist that was carried out online

through the use of the web application, Google Forms. The survey consisted of 10

questions regarding the research topic and was answerable simply by yes or no.
Data Collection Procedure

After the questions for the survey was improved and corrected by the

research adviser, the researchers went on to formulate the survey with the use of

Google forms. The questionnaires were then distributed by the research adviser to

the Junior High students of Montessori De Zamboanga via a link sent to every year

level’s respective group chat. The survey was limited to male students only and

they were asked to answer the questions accordingly. The researchers also implied

to the respondents that their identities would not be known.

Data Analysis Procedure

The data gathered from the respondents were properly and accurately

recorded and analyzed by the researchers. The collective responses of the male

students from each grade level would be the basis for the result of the study.

After the online survey was answered and gathered, the data was collected,

analyzed, and recorded. Frequency count and percentage was also utilized in the

study.
