CHAPTER 2
METHODS
This chapter details the various methods used in the study. It also provides
details about the participants and the criteria used in the study. This chapter contains
the following: the research design, research respondents, research locale, research
instrument, and data gathering procedure that we considered in conducting this study.
The researcher describes the main ideas and the procedures that were used to carry out
the study. The instrument used for the collection of data is also mentioned. The
methods used to analyze the data are also included.
Research Design
The research design is defined as the strategy that you choose to follow when
developing a study. It coordinates all the components of the study in a logical and
coherent way, so that you can effectively address a specific research problem.
This study uses the focus groups method to study the attitudes and beliefs of
individuals. The study design is limited to a few respondents. The reasons for choosing
this approach it that qualitative data is more on the gathering of data that focuses on
the participants opinions, beliefs and attitudes towards a product, service, concept,
advertisement, idea, or packaging (Morgan, 2021). This is the most suited design for
our research because it helps the researchers gain an understanding of how people view
the situation toward the spreading of fake news on social media. In this study the
students experience on facing fake news in social media will be the base of our study as
qualitative to know how frequent students encounter fake news in social media and
that will be the ground of the researchers to proceed in collecting the data thought
interview for qualitative with the use of specific questions. Due to the nature of fake
news, researchers will be able to study its effect on society. This will help them
understand how it can harm and how to prevent it (Conroy et al., 2015).
Respondents
The respondent of this study were chosen using random sample method this is
one of the best way to select your sample from the interest population. Random
sampling is a procedure that uses a random sample to select units from a population
(Shadish, Cook, & Campbell, 2002). Under the random sampling, each unit in the
population has an equal probability of being chosen as part of the selecting process. In
the total number of student of the University of Mindanao 200 students are being
chosen as a part of the research study. The sample size must be large enough to serve a
representative sample of the population while still being small enough to be chosen
based on subject heterogeneity.
Research Environment/Locale
This study will be conducted at Davao City premises specifically, at University of
Mindanao Matina Campus. This school is chosen based on the researcher in order to
know what the role of students in avoiding fake news at the University of Mindanao
Campus. Davao city is located in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. It was
inaugurated as a charter city in 16 October 1936. On March 1, 1937, it was converted
into a city. This city was our chosen of locale where the researchers are studying at the
same time the respondents which are randomly selected is at student in the University
of Mindanao in Davao city ([Link] &
